| The Texas Aces team is an ASA Gold Division girls fast
pitch
softball team affiliated with Sugar Land Girls Softball Association. Before 2005, the team was a member of Pearland
Girls Softball Association,
based in Pearland, TX. The team
was
formed as a 10U team in September 1998 by Manager Kim Orsak to give
area 10 & under girls a chance to compete at a more competitive
level
than league ball. Each year since then the team became
stronger and continued to move up through the age groups. The
team now competes successfully at the 18U Gold level. Although
the original core group of players have almost all graduated, the
coaches look forward to finding new talent in the Houston area and
helping them reach their goals of playing college softball. Visit
the Roster pages to
meet the current players and
coaches.
Each year the team looked at available National
tournaments and sets
goals for the year as to which National tournaments they would like
work
towards. As 10U in 1999, the team traveled to the National
Softball Association (NSA) World Series in Charlotte, North Carolina,
where
they finished tied for 13th of 39
teams. In 2000, the team
competed
in the American Fastpitch Association (AFA) 10U Nationals in Oklahoma
City, Oklahoma, and finished tied for 5th
place of 38
teams.
The 2001 12U team played in the Colorado
Fireworks Invitational Tournament in Broomfield, Colorado, and
qualified
for NSA and United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) World
Series
tournaments. The team chose to play in the USSSA 11U World Series
tournament held in Lakeland, Florida, and came home National
Champions! For 2002, the team finished 1st in the Texas ASA
State tournament, and qualified for ASA 12U Division "A" Nationals
in Sterling, Virginia. There the Texas Aces finished in the top
10 of 79 teams from all around the country. In 2003, the team
qualified and attended AFA 14U Nationals in Blue Springs,
Missouri.
There
they finished 17th
out of 108 teams. In 2004, the 2nd year 14U team returned to
the Colorado Fireworks Invitational Tournament, where
they took 2nd out
of 69 teams. The team also qualified and attended the 2004 AFA
18U Nationals in Beaumont, TX, and the ASA 14U Nationals in Midland,
TX. In Midland, the team finished 17th
out of 96 teams.
In the fall of 2004, the Texas Aces team moved up to the
18U division, and competed well in local tournaments. In the
spring of 2005, the team decided to register as an ASA Gold team and
play in a Gold
qualifier. The team played well, although young, and knew
they could compete at the Gold level the following season. The
team also made a strong showing at the 2005 AFA 18U Nationals,
finishing 13th
out of 124 teams. Two players also attended Gold Nationals in Salinas, CA, as pick-up players for other local Gold teams.
In
the fall of 2005, the Texas Aces coaches combined
with several experienced coaches from the Sugar Land area, and moved
the team to Sugar Land Girls Softball. The team played in
college exposure tournaments in both fall and summer to help players
get seen by as many colleges as possible. The Aces finished tied for
5th place out of 126 teams in the 18U Colorado Fireworks tournament,
and 5th place in the OKC Gold Qualifier. The team fell just short
of it's goal for the
season to qualify for 2006 ASA Gold
Nationals, but returned to the AFA 18U Nationals
in Beaumont, TX.
In 2006, the Texas Aces team qualified for Gold
Nationals in the Sector 3 qualifier held in Houston, TX, after falling
into the loser's bracket in their first game. They won seven
consecutive games to take home the 4th place trophy and a qualifying
berth for Gold Nationals. The team placed 9th in the Colorado
Fireworks touranment, and finished tied for 9th at Gold Nationals,
which was the highest place finish of any Texas team in the tournament.
