Texas AFA National Qualifier
Beaumont Athletic Complex, Beaumont, TX
June 3-4, 2000
Double Elimination/6 Teams

The Texas Aces had their worst finish of the 1999-2000 season at the first AFA Qualifier they attended. They were shut out by the Outlaws after leaving 6 baserunners stranded in 5 innings.  Then, after what looked like a sure victory over the Flames when the Aces had them 4-0 after 4 1/2 innings, the Aces allowed several base hits and several walks/hbp in the bottom of the 5th which tied the score, followed by a bases-loaded triple which put the Flames on top and sent the Aces home.

Bracket Game 2. Sugar Land Outlaws (visitors)  vs. Texas Aces (home). Lost 5-0. Pitchers Kimberly/ Rhiannon.
Although Kimberly and Rhiannon only allowed 2 hits and 1 earned run each, a half dozen Aces fielding errors allowed the Outlaws to score 5 times.  In the first inning, the Outlaws scored once on two singles. The Aces had only one baserunner with a safe bunt by Brytish.  Although the Outlaws had two baserunners on in the 2nd with an error and a walk, both were left stranded.  The Aces again had only one baserunner with a single by Kimberly.  In the 3rd, the Outlaws first baserunner reached on an error, but was forced out at 2nd.  Another runner reached on an error which allowed a run to score, and a ground out brought home another run for the Outlaws.  Things were looking up for the Aces in the bottom of the 3rd with back-to-back singles by Portia and Brytish, but both were left stranded.  In the 4th, the Outlaws had one runner on base on a walk after two outs, and an Aces fielding error failed to get the third out on a grounder.  The next batter hit a double to bring in two more runs for the Outlaws.  The Aces couldn't get the ball out of the infield in the bottom of the inning, and were 3-up 3-down with 3 groundouts.  The Outlaws had two baserunners in the 5th that reached on an error and a single, but Rhiannon turned a double play on a line drive to the pitcher when the runner on first didn't tag up.  In the bottom of the 5th, the Aces had two baserunners as Kayla reached on an error Portia singled, but both were left stranded, leaving the Aces scoreless for the game.

Bracket Game 3. Texas Aces (visitor) vs. Friendswood Flames (home). Lost 4-7. Pitchers Kimberly/ Kayla/Rhiannon.
Portia led off the 1st inning with a single, and scored on a single by Brytish.  The Flames had two baserunners in the bottom of the 1st that reached on error and a walk, but both were left stranded as Jenna caught a runner trying to steal 2nd for the 3rd out.  In the 2nd inning, Jenna got a single up the middle for the Aces, but was left stranded.  The Flames were 3-up 3-down with two groundouts and a strikeout.  Kesha reached on error in the 3rd, but was tagged out going for an extra base on a single by Portia.  Brytish singled in a run, and Kimberly reached on a single.  Kelsea reached first on an error that brought home two runs, but was tagged out going to 2nd after the out attempt at home failed.  The Flames had 3-up 3-down again in the 3rd, with a pop foul caught by Jenna, a groundout, and a strikeout.  The Aces followed with 3-up 3-down in the top of the 4th.  In the bottom of the 4th, the Flames got their first hit on a safe bunt, and had another baserunner on a walk before a 3rd groundout ended the inning leaving both stranded.  In the top of the 5th, Portia was the only baserunner when she reached on an error.

In the bottom of the 5th, the Flames led off with a single for only the 2nd hit allowed by Kimberly and the Aces defense.  Kimberly walked the next batter on a full count.  After two balls to the next batter, Kayla came in to attempt the save, but walked the batter to load the bases.  The next batter brought home the Flames first run with an RBI single, then Kayla got the first out on a line drive back to the pitcher.  Another single up the middle brought home another run for the Flames, keeping the bases loaded.  The next batter was hit by a pitch, which brought home another run.  With the bases still loaded and only one out, Rhiannon came in to replace Kayla with the Aces ahead 4-3.  The first batter Rhiannon faced hit a single for another RBI to tie the game.  Rhiannon then got the second out with a strikeout.  However, on a 1-2 count, the next batter hit a triple out to left center to put the Flames up by three runs to end the game.
