Deer Park Girls Softball Tournament
Deer Park Softball Complex, Deer Park,
TX
April 28-30, 2000
2 Pool/Double Elimination/10 Teams |
|
| The Texas Aces finished a disappointing 4th place at
the Deer Park softball tournament after losing to the Sugar Land Outlaws
5-4. In the Aces final game played, they led the Outlaws 4-0 after
3 innings. The Aces scored three runs in the 1st and one in the 2nd,
with awesome bunts and hits by the lineup, and held the Outlaws to no hits
in the first 3 full innings played. But then the tables turned as
the Outlaws bats started working, and they were able to take advantage
of several Aces errors to score 2 in the 4th and 3 in the 5th, and the
Aces bats were silenced by the Outlaws defense. |
Final Tournament Results: Fourth
place.

| Pool Game 2.
Hit-Away (visitors) vs. Texas Aces (home). Won 7-0. Pitcher Kimberly. |
| Kimberly pitched three full innings, allowing only 1
hit, with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk. Although the Hit-Away pitcher
struck out the first Aces batter, subsequent walks and hits allowed 7 Aces
to cross the plate in the 1st inning. Portia walked, followed by
a single by Brytish, and a walk by Jenna loaded the bases. Singles
by Amy and Kelsea each brought in a run, a single by Kesha brought in 2
more. A bunt by Rhiannon brought home another, and after one fly-ball
out to 2nd, Lauren walked to load the bases once again. Kendall then
walked for an RBI, and after a 3-0 count to Portia, a new pitcher came
in and walked in another RBI before getting the final out of the inning.
Rhiannon hit another single in the 3rd, but the remaining Aces batters
grounded out. |

| Bracket Game
1. Texas Heat (visitors) vs. Texas Aces (home). Won 5-0. Pitcher Rhiannon. |
| Although Rhiannon walked the first batter, she got two
ground-outs and a strike out to leave the runner stranded in the 1st.
Kendall led off the Aces with a great bunt that got her safely to 1st,
and advanced to 2nd on a passed ball. Portia hit another bunt to
score Kendall, and was then able to score herself on Texas Heat fielding
errors. Brytish then reached 1st on another Heat error, and Jenna
walked. Kesha followed with a base hit to load the bases. Kelsea
hit into a fielder's choice that got Brytish out at 3rd, but another Heat
error allowed Amy to reach 1st and 2 more runs came in. Rhiannon
followed with a sac bunt to advance the runners, but they were left stranded. |
| |
| Rhiannon struggled a bit and walked the first two Heat
batters in the top of the 2nd, but got the lead runner on a force at 3rd.
The Heat followed with a base hit, but Aces defense held the runners on
base. Kendall then caught a line drive at first, which held the runners
again, and Rhiannon finished the inning by striking out the next batter
on a great change-up that left the bases loaded. In the bottom of
the 2nd, Portia had a safe bunt, followed by a single by Brytish, but both
were left stranded on ground-outs. |
| |
| The Heat started out the 3rd with a base hit, but Jenna
quickly caught the runner trying to steal 2nd for the first out.
The next batter reached base on an Aces error. Kesha caught a fly-ball
to left field for the 2nd out. Another Heat base hit put runners
on 1st and 2nd. With a hard grounder to right field, the Heat probably
thought they were going to get on the scoreboard, but Portia made a great
throw to first from right field for the final out. |
| |
| In the 4th, Rhiannon walked on 2 outs, and Kimberly followed
with a single. Kendall then reached 1st on an error which allowed
Rhiannon to score. In the bottom of the final inning, Rhiannon allowed
one more single and walked another, but the strong Aces defense got 3 ground-outs
which shut down the Heat for good. |

2. Houston Havoc (visitors) vs. Texas Aces (home). Won 6-3. Pitcher
Lauren. |
| Two singles in the 1st allowed the Havoc to get on the
board first. The Aces started with a single by Kendall, followed
by a sac bunt by Portia. However, Kendall was called out for hesitating
at 3rd after the pitcher had the ball. On a 2 out rally, Brytish
and Kesha each followed with singles, and both scored as Kelsea reached
1st on a Havoc error. In the top of the 2nd, Lauren struck out 2
batters, and had 1 ground-out with 1 walk. In the bottom of the inning,
Kimberly reached 1st on an error as the Havoc dropped a fly ball in left
field, and advanced on a passed ball and a sac bunt by Lauren, but was
left stranded on 3rd. In the 3rd, the Havoc started with a base hit
and advanced to 3rd on stolen bases, and a ground out scored their only
base runner to tie the game 2-2. The Aces answered back in the bottom
of the 3rd with singles by Portia and Jenna, followed by another single
by Kesha which brought home 2 runs. After one ground-out, Amy followed
with another single. Kimberly followed another ground-out with a
base hit to score Amy before another ground out ended the inning.
Only one Havoc batter reached base in the 4th on an Aces error. Kendall
led off the bottom of the 4th with a safe bunt, followed by a sac bunt
by Portia. Kendall was caught stealing 3rd. Jenna got a base
hit up the middle, but was left stranded. In the final inning, after
a fly-ball out to Kendall at 1st, the Havoc got 2 runners on base on Aces
errors, and one batter was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A ground
out to 2nd allowed one more run to score. The final Havoc batter
was called out for throwing the bat, which struck Kelsea across the elbow
and forearm. Kelsea was left with a bruised and sore arm, but luckily
no broken bones. |

3. Texas Aces (visitor) vs. Deer Park Ballistic (home). Lost 1-2. Pitchers
Kimberly/ Rhiannon. |
| In the top of the 1st inning, Amy walked, and scored
on a triple by Brytish. The Ballistic were 3-up 3-down on a bunt
attempt fielded by Jenna (C) to Lauren (2nd) covering 1st, a fly-ball to
Kesha at left field, and a strike out by Kimberly. Kelsea led off
the 2nd with a single up the first base line, and advanced to 3rd on a
wild pitch and a single by Kimberly. However, two strike-outs and
a good catch by the center fielder on a fly-ball just over 2nd base left
2 runners stranded. The Ballistic led off with a single in the bottom
of the 2nd, and another runner reached 1st on an Aces error. After
Kimberly struck out one batter, the next batter reached on another error
and loaded the bases. A single brought home one run, and a third
Aces error in the inning allowed another runner to score before Kimberly
struck out the final two batters, leaving the bases loaded. In the
3rd inning, the Aces had no base runners on two ground-outs to the pitcher
and one fly ball to 2nd. Rhiannon came in to pitch in the bottom
of the inning, and struck out the first batter. The next batter reached
first on a pop fly to second base that was missed on an Aces error, but
another strike out and an unassisted out by Kimberly at 1st left the runner
stranded. Kelsea was the only Aces base runner in the 4th when she reached
first on a Ballistic error. The Ballistic had no runners in the bottom
of the 4th with 2 ground outs and a fly ball out caught by Amy in center
field. However, the Ballistic held the Aces in the 5th with a failed
bunt attempt and two ground outs to win the game. |

4. Texas Heat (visitor) vs. Texas Aces (home). Won 2-1. Pitchers Kimberly/Rhiannon. |
| The Texas Aces met up with the Texas Heat for the second
time in bracket play. In the first inning, after two ground outs,
two Aces errors allowed two Heat base runners before Kimberly struck out
the next batter. In the bottom of the inning, Kendall led off with
a safe bunt, and scored on a double by Portia. Brytish brought home
Portia on another double. After one out, Kelsea and Amy both reached
1st on safe bunts to load the bases, but Brytish was forced out at home,
and a ground-out left 3 runners stranded. In the top of the 2nd,
Kimberly struck out the first batter, and a runner reached 1st on an Aces
error. On a hit to Lauren playing 2nd, the lead runner was forced
out at 2nd on a throw to Brytish at short stop. The next batter hit the
ball to Brytish at short stop, and again the lead runner was forced out
at 2nd on a throw to Lauren to end the inning. In the bottom of the 2nd,
Kimberly led off with a single and advanced to 2nd on a sac bunt (or dead
ball out?) by Kendall. After a pop fly out to 3rd, Brytish singled
to advance Kimberly to 3rd. Jenna got hit by a pitch to load the
bases, but a ground out ended the inning with 3 runners stranded.
The Heat led off the 3rd inning with their first (and only) hit of the
game. The runner advanced to 2nd on a passed ball, and scored on
a ground out. After a fly-ball out to Kesha in left field, Rhiannon
came in to relieve Kimberly. Another fly ball to Kesha ended the
inning. Amy walked in the bottom of the 3rd, and Kesha hit to the
Heat short stop who made the unassisted out at 2nd and threw to 1st for
a double play. A strike out ended the 3rd. In the 4th, two
Heat batters reached base on an error and a hit-by-pitch, but both were
left stranded. In the bottom of the 4th, Kimberly led off with a
solid base hit, and advanced to 2nd on a passed ball. Kendall then
advanced Kimberly two 3rd on another single. Portia was then hit
by a pitch to load the bases. Time expired with bases loaded and
no outs. |

5. Sugar Land Outlaws (visitor) vs. Texas Aces (home). Lost 4-5. Pitchers
Rhiannon/Kimberly. |
| The Outlaws had 3-up 3-down in their first at bat with
3 ground-outs. The Aces got on the board quickly with a safe bunt
by Kendall, followed by a sac bunt by Portia and a safe bunt by Brytish.
A single by Jenna brought home both runners, and allowed Jenna to get to
2nd. Kelsea followed with another single, and Jenna advanced to 3rd
on a passed ball. Amy advanced Kelsea to 2nd on a safe bunt that
loaded the bases as the Outlaws held Jenna at 3rd. Kimberly hit into
a fielder's choice, but Jenna scored as the Outlaws failed to make the
play with an error. A strike out ended the inning with the bases
left loaded. |
| |
| In the top of the 2nd, Kendall caught a pop up at 1st
for the first out. An Aces fielding error allowed a base runner on
1st, but Kelsea at catcher threw out the runner trying to steal 2nd, with
a great catch by Brytish at short stop. A ground out ended the top
of the inning. In the bottom of the inning, Kendall led off with
another safe bunt, followed by another sac bunt by Portia. Brytish
hit a single to move Kendall to 3rd. Jenna hit a fielder's choice
directly to the bag at 2nd base, but the Outlaws tried to tag Brytish rather
than step on the bag, and Brytish slid under the tag and was safe at 2nd
to load the bases. Kelsea hit into a fielder's choice that got Kendall
out at home plate for the 2nd out, with the bases still loaded. Amy
hit into another fielder's choice, but again the Outlaws failed to make
the play and Brytish scored. A fly ball to center field ended the
inning with the Aces leading 4-0. |
| |
| In the 3rd inning, the first batter grounded out to Lauren
at 2nd, and the next batter hit a pop up to Lauren. An error then
allowed one base runner, but on the next batter, Brytish at short stop
got the force out on a throw to Lauren at 2nd. The Aces didn't get
anyone on base in the bottom of the inning, with a ground out to the pitcher,
a line drive to short (who made a really good catch), and a pop up to the
pitcher. |
| |
| Kimberly came in to pitch in the 4th. The lead
batter started out with a single for the Outlaws first hit of the game,
and the 2nd batter walked. The next batter hit a grounder to left
field, and Kesha threw to Jenna for the force at 3rd. The next batter
hit to 3rd, and Jenna made the unassisted force out on the lead runner.
With 2 outs, the Outlaws then got a 2 run single to end the shutout, before
grounding out for the final out. In the bottom of the 4th, the Aces
couldn't get any runners on base with a failed bunt attempt, and line drive
to 3rd, and a pop-up to 1st. |
| |
| In the 5th inning, things turned around for the Outlaws.
The first batter was allowed on base by a missed pop up. The next
batter grounded out, but advanced the runner to 2nd. The runner advanced
to 3rd on a wild pitch, then was held at 3rd as another batter reached
1st with a single. Rhiannon came back in to pitch with runners on
1st and 3rd. On a grounder to 3rd, an error on the throw to first
allowed two runs to score, while the batter reached 2nd. The Aces
got the 2nd out on a ground out, but a single (the only hit allowed by
Rhiannon in the game) scored the runner from 3rd to put the Outlaws in
the lead 5-4 before the Aces got the final out. In the bottom of
the 5th, Kelsea reached first base on an error as the Outlaws dropped the
ball on an attempted tag out. After a strike out, however, Kelsea
was caught stealing 3rd for the 2nd out. Kesha then reached 1st on
another Outlaws error, but a pop-up to short ended the game and the tournament
for the Aces. |
