Texas ASA District 27 Championship
Lake Jackson Youth Sports Complex
May 19-21, 2000
Double Elimination/12 Teams
(Required to play this tournament to advance to ASA State Championship.)

The Texas Aces went undefeated to win the ASA District 27 Championship.  This tournament determined whether district teams were classified as "A" or "B" for ASA State and National tournaments.  The Texas Aces were the only Division A team entered in the tournament, with all the other teams being newly formed all-star teams.  Although there were many talented athletes on each of the all-star teams, the Aces experience in tournament play and specialized defensive positions showed what a difference there is between Division A and Division B play.  (Due to the difference in skill level of these teams, the scorekeeper hesitated to charge errors to the opposing teams, and usually gave the batter the hit if a ball was not cleanly fielded or a throw did not reach it's target in time.)

Bracket Game 1. Texas Aces (visitors) vs. Lake Jackson Brat Attack (home). Won 13-1. Pitchers Rhiannon/Kimberly.
The Aces got off to a good start as Kendall led off with a bunt.  However, the pitcher's unique arm motion fooled Kendall into leaving 1st base before the ball was released on the pitch to the next batter, and she was called out  Portia then reached on a single, followed by RBI singles by Brytish, Jenna, Kelsea, and Lauren, and a single by Kimberly.  Two runners were left stranded in the 1st.

Rhiannon started off pitching for the Aces.  She was tired from an all-day field trip to Galveston, and it showed.  She walked the first two batters, and was called for an illegal pitch, which really got her off balance.  She allowed one hit, then walked in the Brat Attack's only run before being replaced by Kimberly. Lauren fielded the next hit at 2nd and fired it home for the force. A line drive to Kimberly and a ground out to 2nd left the bases loaded.

Portia and Kelsea each got a single in the 2nd, with RBI singles by Brytish, Jenna, Amy, and Kimberly, and an RBI by Lauren.  Kimberly struck two out in the bottom of the 2nd, and threw one out at 1st.  Kendall led off the 3rd with a safe bunt, followed by RBI singles by Portia and Brytish.  Kayla reached on an error, and Lauren hit a 2 RBI single.  Kimberly walked two on one out in the bottom of the 3rd, but struck out the next two to leave the runners stranded.

Bracket Game 2. Texas Aces (visitors) vs. West Columbia Chaos (home). Won 20-0. Pitcher Kimberly.
This game was originally scheduled for Friday night, but heavy rains postponed the games until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Brytish singled in the 1st on two outs, and Jenna walked.  Kelsea singled in Brytish, but two runners were left stranded with only one run scoring.  The Chaos lead-off batter hit the first pitch for a single, which turned out to be the only Chaos hit of the game.  The runner was left stranded after Kendall caught a foul ball near 1st, Kimberly got a strikeout, and Lauren fielded the ball at 2nd.

The Aces went through their batting lineup twice in the 2nd inning.  Kimberly led off with a triple down the 3rd base line, and scored on a safe bunt by Lauren.  Lauren scored on a double by Kesha.  Kendall had a safe bunt, and Brytish hit a 2 RBI single.  Jenna, Kimberly, Lauren, and Kesha each had RBI singles.  Kelsea had an RBI bunt each time she was at bat, Portia had a safe bunt, Kendall walked once, and Brytish walked for an RBI.  Jenna had a 3 RBI triple.  In the bottom of the inning, the first batter grounded out to first, and Kimberly struck out two.

In the 3rd inning, Lauren walked on one out, followed by a single by Kesha.  Kayla brought them both home with a safe bunt.  Portia brought home Kayla with another safe bunt, followed by a safe bunt by Brytish, and Jenna brought home two more with a slap.  Kelsea advanced Jenna with a sacrifice bunt, and Amy was called out at 1st on another bunt that would have brought home another run.  She clearly beat the throw to first, and it was entered in the stats as an RBI single.  Kimberly struck out the next two batters and the last one grounded out to the pitcher for the shutout.

Bracket Game 3. Texas Aces (visitors) vs. Lake Jackson Knockouts (home). Won 7-1. Pitchers Lauren / Kayla.
Kendall led off the 1st inning with a single, and scored on a groundout by Brytish.  Lauren started the game for the Aces, pitching for the first time since she got her tonsils out last week.  She was struggling a little, and walked the first batter, who quickly got picked off trying to steal 2nd by Jenna and Brytish.  Lauren walked two more, and one scored on a groundout to short.  Lauren struck out the next batter for the 3rd out.

Kelsea reached on error in the 2nd, advanced on a sac bunt by Amy, and scored on a single by Kimberly.  Kimberly advanced on a sac bunt by Lauren, but was left stranded.  Lauren walked the first batter in the 2nd before being replaced by Kayla.  Kayla struck out the first and third batters she faced, but walked two to load the bases.  However, a grounder back to the pitcher resulted in a force out at home for the 3rd out.  Portia got a single in the 3rd, and scored on a single by Brytish.  The Knockouts got one walk and one base hit in the bottom of the 3rd, but both runners were left stranded.

In the 4th, Kimberly got a base hit, and scored on a triple by Kayla.  Kesha bunted safely while the Knockouts held Kayla at 3rd, Kendall bunted safely to load the bases.  Portia got a base hit and an RBI on a fly ball to center field, but Kendall was tagged out going to 2nd after tagging up on the fly ball.  Brytish ended with a 2-run single, but was tagged out trying for an extra base after both runs scored.  After a fly ball out to 3rd and a strikeout, Kayla struggled some and walked two batters before getting the last one on a called strikeout.

Kendall led off with a single for the Aces, but was tagged out going for an extra base.  Portia and Brytish followed with singles, and Jenna reached on an error and got an RBI.  Amy brought home two more with a single, but was later caught stealing 2nd for the 3rd out.  In the 2nd inning, Alvin got one single after one out, but Kimberly struck out the next two batters to leave the runner stranded.  In the bottom of the inning, Kimberly walked, followed by a safe bunt by Lauren.  Kesha brought them both home with a single.  Kesha scored on a sac bunt by Portia.  Brytish reached on an error, but was left stranded.  Alvin had 3-up, 3-down in the 3rd, with a strike out by Kimberly, a great catch of a fly ball to left field by Kesha, and a ground out to Jenna at 3rd.  In the bottom of the 3rd, Amy had a safe bunt, and scored on a single by Lauren.  In the top of the 4th, Alvin had two consecutive singles, then Jenna got a force out at 3rd, followed by a sac bunt out that advanced the runners only one base, and a caught foul ball by Kayla at 1st.  Time had expired, so the Aces didn't get their last at bat.

Bracket Game 5. Lake Jackson Knockouts (visitor) vs. Texas Aces (home). Won 3-2. Pitchers Kayla / Rhiannon.
Kayla pitched the 1st inning for the Aces, with 1 walk, 2 called strikeouts, and 1 groundout.  In the bottom of the 1st, the Aces had a two out rally with singles by Brytish and  Jenna, then Kelsea reached on a Lake Jackson error that allowed two runs to score.  In the 2nd inning, Lake Jackson had one baserunner on a walk, with a strikeout, a groundout to 3rd, and a fly ball to right field.  Kayla led off the bottom of the 2nd with a single, but was left stranded.

Kayla walked the lead-off batter in the 3rd, who then scored as another batter reached 1st on an Aces error.  A groundout to short brought home another run.  Lake Jackson had one other baserunner in the inning who reached on error.  Brytish had a single in the bottom of the 3rd, but was left stranded.
