Texas ASA District 27 Tournament 10U-14U
Lake Jackson, Texas
June 1-2, 2001
Double Elimination Bracket - 12 teams

Texas Aces District 27 Champions Once Again!
The Texas Aces 12U successfully defended their District 27 Championship title from 10U last year as they swept through the District 27 Tournament undefeated.  Special congratulations goes to the Lake Jackson Wipeout for taking 2nd place.  The Wipeout faced the Aces in their first game on Friday night, and won 5 games on Saturday to make it back to the Championship game, which was their 6th game of the day.  What a great effort!  The Wipeout is mostly the same team that took 2nd in District to the Aces last year, when they played as the Lake Jackson Knockouts All-Star team.  Congratulations to both teams, and the Aces wish the Wipeout good luck at the Texas ASA State Tournament in San Marcos.  Represent District 27 well!

Game Summaries
Game 1
In the first game against the Alvin Bayou Babes, the Aces defense started off a little shaky, since the team did not even have a practice since the last tournament.  In the first inning, they allowed one baserunner on an error, who then advanced to third on another error, and scored on a groundout.  The Aces then managed to get it together and shut out Alvin the rest of the game, allowing only 3 hits.  Final score 8-1.

Game 2
In the second game, against the team that took 2nd in last year's District tournament, the Aces were ready to battle.  The first Wipeout batter got on base on an error, but a double-play on a line drive to 2nd quickly cleared the bases.  The Aces had their first baserunner in the 2nd, when Megan singled, and later her courtesy runner scored on a wild pitch.  In the 3rd, Bonnie led off with a safe bunt, followed by a single from Lindsey, and an RBI single from Jenna brought Bonnie home.  Lindsey scored on a wild pitch, and Jenna scored on an RBI ground-out from Brytish.  Megan reached on an error, and after a safe bunt by Amy, Megan's courtesy runner again scored on a wild pitch.  Kayla almost single-handedly finished the Wipeout in the 4th, with a line drive and two ground-outs back to the pitcher on only 4 pitches.  In the 4th, Lindsey reached on error, and later stole home, and Brytish walked, and scored when the catcher overthrew 2nd attempting to catch Brytish stealing.  Megan had another single down the third base line, but was left stranded.  The Wipeout ended up with only 3 hits in the game.  Final score 7-0.

Game 3
In the 3rd game against the Danbury Crusaders, the Aces were the visiting team and batted first.  Bonnie walked, and advanced and scored on wild pitches.  Lindsey was hit by a pitch, and scored on a groundout by Jenna.  Brytish reached on an error, but was later caught stealing.  Megan, Kelsea, and Portia all reached when they were hit by pitches to load the bases on two outs.  Kesha followed with an RBI single, and Kayla with a two RBI single.  Kesha also scored on a wild pitch.  Kayla faced three batters in the 1st.  The first one hit the ball well, but the Aces made the catch in right field, and the next two grounded out to the pitcher.  Jenna led off the 2nd with a single, and her CR later scored on a wild pitch.  Brytish walked and scored a couple of wild pitches later.  Megan singled, and later scored on a wild pitch, and Kelsea walked.  Portia had an RBI single, followed by a single from Kesha.  Kayla had an RBI sac bunt, then Bonnie reached on an error.Lindsey reached on a safe bunt, and Jenna grounded out for another RBI.  Bonnie came in to pitch in the 2nd, and the first batter hit a double to deep left field.  Bonnie struck out the next batter, and although the runner advanced to 3rd on a groundout to short, another groundout to 3rd left the runner stranded.  The Aces defense was really looking good!  In the final inning, Rhiannon reached on error, and later advanced and scored on wild pitches as Kelsea walked.  Portia brought home Kelsea on an RBI single, but was later tagged out at 3rd.  The umpire allowed one baserunner in the bottom of the third on a bad call, but that runner was caught stealing for the final out of the game.  Final score 15-0.

Game 4
In the fourth bracket game, the Aces faced Brazoria No Excuses.  The only baserunner in the 1st for the Aces was Jenna after being hit by a pitch.  After a couple of errors in the first inning, which allowed one baserunner for Brazoria,  the Aces defense got it together and left that runner stranded.  In the 2nd inning, after a strikeout, Kendall reached on an error, and Portia bunted safely to advance Kendall.  Amy got an RBI on a sac bunt for the 2nd out.  Rhiannon, Bonnie, and Lindsey followed with RBI singles for a 2-out rally.  Jenna followed with another single, and Brytish scored Lindsey with another single.  Jenna was caught leaving the base early for the 3rd out.  In the bottom of the inning, Rhiannon walked the first batter, but two groundouts back to the pitcher and one the 3rd left the runner stranded.  Megan led off the 3rd with a base hit, followed by a safe bunt by Kendall.  Kelsea hit into a fielder's choice, then Amy reached on a defensive error.  Kendall scored on an error, and Rhiannon grounded out for another RBI.  Kesha walked before another groundout ended the inning.  Brazoria started hitting the ball hard in the bottom of the 3rd, but the Aces defense was incredible, as they snagged fly balls left and right.  Kelsea caught the first one in right, and Brytish snagged the second out from short just over the 3rd base!  Amy made a great catch to get the last one in shallow center.  Brazoria's defense didn't give up either.  After a groundout back to the pitcher, Brytish reached on a safe bunt, but was later caught stealing.  Another groundout made it a quick inning.  Brazoria came up to bat swinging hard, but the Aces infield defense answered.  On a very hard hit grounder to 2nd, Lindsey came up with the ball in an incredible play and made the out at first.  The next ball was hit hard to Jenna, who stopped the ball, picked it up and fired to first for the out.  The next batter hit a fly-ball to short which Brytish snagged to end the game.  The game ended up a no-hitter for Rhiannon, but only thanks to the great defensive efforts of the entire team!  Final score 7-0.

Game 5
The Lake Jackson Wipeout made it through the loser's bracket to face the Aces in the championship game.  The Wipeout played a great game, and it was their 6th straight for the day!  In the 1st inning, the Wipeout's 2nd batter hit a single down the 3rd base side, and the next batter reached on a defensive fielding error that allowed the first run to score.  That runner was tagged out trying to get an extra base on a play from right field to 2nd base.  One more runner was allowed to reach on on error before the inning was over.  Bonnie led off the bottom of the 1st with a single on a full count.  After two flyball outs, the Aces again had a two out rally, with Brytish and Megan each getting RBI singles, followed by a 2 RBI double by Kesha.  The inning ended with a hard line drive to short by Portia that the Wipeout shortstop snagged.  At the top of the 2nd inning, Kayla walked the first batter, but the Aces superb scorekeeper got the out for batting out of order, as that batter got the 3rd out in the 1st inning!  Kayla walked the next batter, but a line drive to 1st base almost got the double play.  A third walk in the inning had two runners on base, but Kayla came back with three strikes to put the ball in play for a groundout to 2nd.  The Wipout had the Aces 3-up-3-down in the bottom of the 2nd, with 2 strikeouts and a groundout.  The Aces got two quick outs on the Wipeout in the 3rd on two groundouts, followed by a base-hit and a walk to put two runners on base.  Another hit to center field for the Wipeout looked like it might tie up the game, but a picture-perfect relay from center field to pitcher to catcher caught the lead runner at the plate!  Lindsey led off the bottom of the 3rd with a single, and after stealing 2nd, scored on a single by Jenna.  However, on a line drive to 3rd, Jenna got caught not tagging up on 1st for a double play.  A groundout ended the inning.  In the top of the 4th, the first batter hit what looked like a line drive to Lindsey at 2nd.  Kendall covering 1st base thought it was an out, and so did the batter for a minute.  However, Lindsey didn't catch it in the air, and had to slide into 1st to beat the batter there for the out.  Lindsey snagged the next hit for a groundout, and just when it looked like one got through to right field, Portia fielded it and made the throw to 1st for the final out.  Time expired with the Aces at bat with two outs.
