Texas Aces Win Texas - Louisiana Shootout in Beaumont
For the first road trip of the season, the Texas Aces headed east to Beaumont for the Texas- Louisiana Shootout.  It was the first really warm weekend the girls had played so far this year.  With temperatures predicted for the upper 80's, and all games being 1:30 in length, we all hoped for cloudy skies!  With four games scheduled on Saturday, the Aces paced themselves in the pool games, which didn't even count for anything, as the bracket was already drawn.  The Aces got some pitching help from shortstops Lindsey and Brytish in the first two pool games.  But the weather did stay fairly cloudy, and the Aces came out full force for the final pool game and all three bracket games, allowing only 3 more runs in the tournament.  The tournament ended with a spectacular play by the Aces defense!

Pool 1 - vs New Orleans Voodoo
In the first pool game, the Aces faced the only Louisiana team in the bracket.  Kayla started for the Aces, but Lindsey came in for her pitching debut in the 2nd inning, and pitched into the 4th.  Although she walked a couple, she allowed only one hit, and got several groundouts and one strikeout! The Aces racked up 8 runs in one inning as 6 Aces walked and one was hit by a pitch.  Amy and Kelsea hit safe bunts, Kayla had an RBI single, Rhiannon had an RBI with a fielder's choice.

Pool 2 - vs Beaumont Blast Red
In the second pool game, the Aces faced the Beaumont Blast 2nd year 12U team.  The Aces weren't hitting much in this game, although the defense had a couple good plays. Rhiannon walked the first batter, but Kelsea got her out on a double play on a line drive to 3rd when she picked off the runner on 1st who didn't tag up.  In another inning, a runner was caught in a rundown between 2nd & 3rd base.  Brytish had her pitching debut in the 4th, but decided it was harder than it looked.  Lindsey came in to pitch in the 5th, and struck out the first batter!  She and Rhiannon allowed only one hit each.  Brytish and Lindsey had singles in the game, and Megan had a RBI double.

Pool 3 - vs Humble Cobras.  Aces won 15-1.
After a nice break, the Aces got down to business in the last pool game.  The Aces had 13 hits and scored 15 runs while making only one defensive error.  Kayla allowed two hits, and had 6 strikeouts, and 3 walks.  One walk scored on a two out single for the Cobras only run.  Amy had three singles and an RBI.  Megan had two singles and a double with one RBI.  Rhiannon had an RBI single and a bases loaded 3 RBI triple.  Brytish had two singles and an RBI, Amber and Kelsea each had singles and one RBI, and Kayla and Kendall each had singles, while Lindsey had and RBI and Kesha had two RBIs.

Bracket 1 - vs New Orleans Voodoo.  Aces won 11-0.
Rhiannon pitched 5 shutout innings in this game, allowing only 3 hits, and getting 7 strikeouts, and the Aces defense was flawless as the Aces won over the Voodoo.  At first, it looked like it could be anyone's ballgame, as the Aces scored only one run per inning in the first two innings.  Amy led off with a single, advanced on a safe by a bunt by Amber, and Lindsey walked as Amy scored on a passed ball.  Kayla hit a single to load the bases.  However, all were left stranded with two fly-outs and a line drive to short.  Voodoo had one hit up the middle in the 1st.  Kendall led off with a hit in the 2nd, advanced on a sac bunt, and scored on a single by Amy.  Voodoo had another hit in the 2nd, but the side was retired with a fly out to right and two strikeouts.  In the 3rd, the Aces broke out the bats, as Lindsey led off with a single, stole 2nd, and advanced to 3rd on a sac bunt.  Brytish bunted safely, while Lindsey held at 3rd, then Kelsea brought home a run with a safe bunt, followed by RBI singles from Megan, Kendall, and Lindsey, and RBI bunts from Rhiannon and Amy, putting 7 more runs on the board in the inning.  Kelsea had a safe bunt in the 4th, but was left stranded.  Rhiannon led off the 5th with a single, and scored on a triple by AmyAmy scored on a groundout.  Rhiannon allowed one last hit in the 5th to the Voodoo who hadn't had a baserunner since the 2nd inning, but the runner was forced out at 2nd, and Rhiannon retired the final batter with a strikeout.

Bracket 2 - vs Humble Cobras.  Aces won 12-2.
Kayla allowed only two hits, with 5 strikeouts, and one walk, although 2 unearned runs scored due to a couple of defensive errors.  Amy led off the game with a safe bunt and scored on a single by KendallKendall scored on a groundout, and Brytish followed with a single but was left stranded.  With two strikeouts in the 1st, one runner who had reached on error, scored on another error, and the Cobras had one hit that was left stranded.  The Aces bats were hot in the 2nd, as Megan led off with a triple, followed by an RBI bunt by Kesha, and an RBI triple by RhiannonAmy and Kendall walked, and Lindsey brought in two more runs with a double.  The Cobras had one baserunner on an error in the 2nd.  Kelsea led off the 3rd with a single, but was forced out at 2nd on a fielder's choice by MeganMegan scored on a error.  Kesha and Amy each had singles and scored on wild pitches.  The Cobras had one baserunner on a walk in the 3rd.  Lindsey led off the 4th with a double, and Kayla walked, and both came home as Brytish and Kelsea each had RBI groundouts.  Kesha was hit by a pitch in the 5th, but was caught stealing.  The Cobras got their leadoff runner on with an Aces error, and one run scored on a single that was left stranded.

Bracket 3 - vs Texas Xpress.  Aces won 2-0.
In the championship game, the pitching and defense on each side was very tight.  Megan was the first baserunner of the game with a two-out single in the 2nd, but was left stranded.  Kesha led off the 3rd with a double, and scored on a safe bunt by RhiannonRhiannon moved to 2nd on a sac bunt by Amy and advanced to 3rd on an Xpress error.  Amber followed with a sac bunt to score Rhiannon, putting two runs on the board for the Aces that inning.  Megan was the only Aces baserunner in the 4th, when she reached on error, and the Xpress had one baserunner also on error in the 4th.  The Xpress got their first hit of the game in the 5th with a shot up the middle, and Rhiannon walked one after two outs, but no runs scored as the Aces got the final out on a groundout.  Amber led off the 6th with a hit, but was caught going for extra bases on a sac bunt by Kendall.  The Xpress put the pressure on with a lead-off single down the 3rd base line in the 6th.  The runner advanced on a groundout and a wild pitch.  Rhiannon walked another batter on two outs, for only the 2nd walk of the game.  Time had expired, with the home team Xpress at bat with runners on 1st and 3rd and two outs, and the go-ahead run at bat.  Ready to end it all there, the Aces coaches called for a pitch-out, and with a perfectly executed play, Rhiannon pitched the ball high and outside, Megan caught it and fired to 2nd, and Brytish tagged out the runner trying to steal!  Ball Game!  Way to go Aces!
