Pool 1 - vs New Orleans Voodoo
In the first pool game, the Aces faced the only Louisiana team in the
bracket. Kayla started for the Aces, but Lindsey came
in for her pitching debut in the 2nd inning, and pitched into the 4th.
Although she walked a couple, she allowed only one hit, and got several
groundouts and one strikeout! The Aces racked up 8 runs in one inning as
6 Aces walked and one was hit by a pitch. Amy and Kelsea
hit safe bunts, Kayla had an RBI single, Rhiannon had an
RBI with a fielder's choice.
Pool 2 - vs Beaumont Blast Red
In the second pool game, the Aces faced the Beaumont Blast 2nd year
12U team. The Aces weren't hitting much in this game, although the
defense had a couple good plays. Rhiannon walked the first batter,
but Kelsea got her out on a double play on a line drive to 3rd when
she picked off the runner on 1st who didn't tag up. In another inning,
a runner was caught in a rundown between 2nd & 3rd base. Brytish
had her pitching debut in the 4th, but decided it was harder than it looked.
Lindsey came in to pitch in the 5th, and struck out the first batter!
She and Rhiannon allowed only one hit each. Brytish
and Lindsey had singles in the game, and Megan had a RBI
double.
Pool 3 - vs Humble Cobras. Aces won 15-1.
After a nice break, the Aces got down to business in the last pool
game. The Aces had 13 hits and scored 15 runs while making only one
defensive error. Kayla allowed two hits, and had 6 strikeouts,
and 3 walks. One walk scored on a two out single for the Cobras only
run. Amy had three singles and an RBI. Megan
had two singles and a double with one RBI. Rhiannon had an
RBI single and a bases loaded 3 RBI triple. Brytish had two
singles and an RBI, Amber and Kelsea each had singles and
one RBI, and Kayla and Kendall each had singles, while Lindsey
had and RBI and Kesha had two RBIs.
Bracket 1 - vs New Orleans Voodoo. Aces
won 11-0.
Rhiannon pitched 5 shutout innings in this game, allowing only 3 hits,
and getting 7 strikeouts, and the Aces defense was flawless as the Aces
won over the Voodoo. At first, it looked like it could be anyone's
ballgame, as the Aces scored only one run per inning in the first two innings.
Amy led off with a single, advanced on a safe by a bunt by Amber,
and Lindsey walked as Amy scored on a passed ball.
Kayla hit a single to load the bases. However, all were left
stranded with two fly-outs and a line drive to short. Voodoo had
one hit up the middle in the 1st. Kendall led off with a hit
in the 2nd, advanced on a sac bunt, and scored on a single by Amy.
Voodoo had another hit in the 2nd, but the side was retired with a fly
out to right and two strikeouts. In the 3rd, the Aces broke out the
bats, as Lindsey led off with a single, stole 2nd, and advanced
to 3rd on a sac bunt. Brytish bunted safely, while Lindsey
held at 3rd, then Kelsea brought home a run with a safe bunt, followed
by RBI singles from Megan, Kendall, and Lindsey, and
RBI bunts from Rhiannon and Amy, putting 7 more runs on the
board in the inning. Kelsea had a safe bunt in the 4th, but
was left stranded. Rhiannon led off the 5th with a single,
and scored on a triple by Amy. Amy scored on a groundout.
Rhiannon allowed one last hit in the 5th to the Voodoo who hadn't
had a baserunner since the 2nd inning, but the runner was forced out at
2nd, and Rhiannon retired the final batter with a strikeout.
Bracket 2 - vs Humble Cobras. Aces won
12-2.
Kayla allowed only two hits, with 5 strikeouts, and one walk,
although 2 unearned runs scored due to a couple of defensive errors.
Amy led off the game with a safe bunt and scored on a single by
Kendall. Kendall scored on a groundout, and Brytish
followed with a single but was left stranded. With two strikeouts
in the 1st, one runner who had reached on error, scored on another error,
and the Cobras had one hit that was left stranded. The Aces bats
were hot in the 2nd, as Megan led off with a triple, followed by
an RBI bunt by Kesha, and an RBI triple by Rhiannon.
Amy and Kendall walked, and Lindsey brought in two
more runs with a double. The Cobras had one baserunner on an error
in the 2nd. Kelsea led off the 3rd with a single, but was
forced out at 2nd on a fielder's choice by Megan. Megan
scored on a error. Kesha and Amy each had singles and
scored on wild pitches. The Cobras had one baserunner on a walk in
the 3rd. Lindsey led off the 4th with a double, and Kayla
walked, and both came home as Brytish and Kelsea each had
RBI groundouts. Kesha was hit by a pitch in the 5th, but was
caught stealing. The Cobras got their leadoff runner on with an Aces
error, and one run scored on a single that was left stranded.
Bracket 3 - vs Texas Xpress. Aces won
2-0.
In the championship game, the pitching and defense on each side was
very tight. Megan was the first baserunner of the game with
a two-out single in the 2nd, but was left stranded. Kesha
led off the 3rd with a double, and scored on a safe bunt by Rhiannon.
Rhiannon moved to 2nd on a sac bunt by Amy and advanced to
3rd on an Xpress error. Amber followed with a sac bunt to
score Rhiannon, putting two runs on the board for the Aces that
inning. Megan was the only Aces baserunner in the 4th, when
she reached on error, and the Xpress had one baserunner also on error in
the 4th. The Xpress got their first hit of the game in the 5th with
a shot up the middle, and Rhiannon walked one after two outs, but
no runs scored as the Aces got the final out on a groundout. Amber
led off the 6th with a hit, but was caught going for extra bases on a sac
bunt by Kendall. The Xpress put the pressure on with a lead-off
single down the 3rd base line in the 6th. The runner advanced on
a groundout and a wild pitch. Rhiannon walked another batter
on two outs, for only the 2nd walk of the game. Time had expired,
with the home team Xpress at bat with runners on 1st and 3rd and two outs,
and the go-ahead run at bat. Ready to end it all there, the Aces
coaches called for a pitch-out, and with a perfectly executed play, Rhiannon
pitched the ball high and outside, Megan caught it and fired to 2nd, and
Brytish tagged out the runner trying to steal! Ball Game! Way
to go Aces! |
