Happy Mother's Day to the Texas Aces Moms!
If we all had to spend Mother's Day at the ballpark, what better way to end it than by bringing home the championship!  Of course, the girls had to do it the long way, by losing the 2nd bracket game on Saturday night, and playing five games on Sunday instead of just two.  But it was a well deserved victory, and all the moms (and dads) are very proud of their girls.  Thanks goes out to Stephanie from Kingwood who played for us on Saturday while Amy was out sick.  We were all thankful that Kendall was feeling better and able to play this weekend (at 110%!) after getting hit by a foul ball the previous week.  What a great black eye!  Congratulations to Megan who led the Aces in batting (.588) for the tournament!

Pool Game 1 - vs Texas Royals.  Aces won 7-2.
The Aces offense had 9 hits and scored 7 runs against the Royals. Brytish led off batting for the Aces with a double on the first pitch, and scored on a sac fly by LindseyKesha had a single in the 2nd, but was left stranded.  Brytish led off the 3rd with a single, and advanced with a safe bunt by Amber. Megan, Kayla, and Kelsea each followed with RBI singles, and Kesha cleared the bases with a 2 RBI triple, and came home on an RBI single by Kendall, for a 6 run inning.

Pool Game 2 - vs Young Guns.  Aces won 6-1.
Brytish led off with a single, and Amber walked. Lindsey hit an RBI single.  Bases were loaded on a fielder's choice when the ball was dropped at 2nd.  Kayla walked for an RBI, and Kelsea hit an RBI single.  Rhiannon grounded out for another RBI.  In the 2nd, Brytish hit another single and advanced on a safe bunt by Amber, and came home on a single by MeganKendall led off with a single in the 4th, and came home on a single by Amber.

Pool Game 3 - vs Beaumont Blast Red.  Aces lost 2-4.
The Blast got their first two baserunners on a walk and an error, and both scored on the only two hits Kayla allowed over two innings. Lindsey walked in the 1st on two outs, and scored on a triple by Megan.  The Blast had two more baserunners on in the 3rd with a walk and a single, who scored on a sac bunt and a passed ball.  Aces guest player Stephanie walked in the 3rd, and scored on a single by Lindsey, but the Aces couldn't put any more runs on the board.

Bracket 1 - vs Woodlands Force.  Aces won 4-2.
Rhiannon had six strikeouts and three flyouts in three innings, with one walk.  That lone baserunner scored on two Aces throwing errors. Megan had an RBI double in the first, and scored as another reached base on error. Kendall led off the 2nd with a single, and scored on a double by Lindsey. Amber brought home Lindsey on a single. Megan led off the 3rd with a single, but was left stranded.  The Force got their first hit of the game against Kayla in the 4th, but that batter was quickly retired on a double play with a line drive to Lindsey at short to Kendall at 1st when the runner couldn't get back to 1st base.  The Force got another single, and the runner scored on a double before the side was retired.

Bracket 2 - vs Cy Fair Blaze.  Aces lost 3-4.
Kesha put the first run of the game on the board with a solo homerun to left field in the 2nd.  The bases were loaded with a walk, a safe bunt by Kelsea, and a single by Stephanie, but a fielder's choice led to a double-play by the Blaze to end the inning.  The Aces struggled defensively in the 2nd when the 1st batter walked, and an attempt at a fielder's choice led to an error, but the runner was retired trying to take an extra base.  Another baserunner reached on an error.  The second out was made at the plate on a fielder's choice hit to Kelsea at third where Megan tagged the runner attempting to score.  However, a walk loaded the bases, then a single up the middle scored a run.  A second runner tried to score, but a perfect throw from Amber in center field allowed Megan to tag the runner at home to keep the game tied 1-1. Amber led off the 3rd with a safe bunt, and Brytish was hit by a pitch.  Megan reached on a fielder's choice, and Kesha drove home a run with a single, and Megan scored on a wild pitch. Kendall led off with a single in the 4th, but was left stranded. The Blaze had the home team advantage, and came to bat with time expired and the Aces leading 3-1 in the bottom of the 4th.  After the first two batters walked, Rhiannon came in and tried to save the game.  However, two Aces defensive errors loaded the bases and allowed one run to score, then a double hit up the middle ended the game with the Blaze on top.

Mother's Day - The girls presented the Moms with red carnations before the first game, and championship trophies after the last game!

Bracket 3 - vs Young Guns.  Aces won 2-0.
In the first two innings, each side had only one baserunner with a leadoff single by Amy for the Aces in the 1st, and a single by the Young Guns in the 2nd.  Kendall led off with a single in the 3rd, and scored on a double by RhiannonRhiannon advanced to 3rd on the attempt at the plate on Kendall.  Then, on a bunt to 3rd by Amy, the 3rd baseman turned (inside) to check the runner at 3rd, there was no one there!  Rhiannon blasted right past the 3rd baseman to score the Aces 2nd run!  The Young Guns got two outs on a double play.  In the 4th, the Young Guns had two back to back singles, but a line drive to Brytish at short got one out, and a fielder's choice to Kayla took out the lead runner going to 3rd to keep the Guns from putting up any runs.  After a one out walk in the 5th, Rhiannon came in for the save.  The first batter she faced hit a line drive to Kayla at 1st, who then got the double play on the batter she had walked!  Megan and Kayla also had singles in the game.

Bracket 4 - vs Texas Royals.  Aces won 1-0.
This game was a battle of the pitchers, as Rhiannon and the Aces defense allowed only one hit to the Royals (by a former Aces team member).  The defense was tight on both sides, as neither team had any errors.  The Aces had one baserunner on the only walk of the game in the 1st, but Lindsey was left stranded.  In the 3rd, Kendall hit a two-out single and scored on a triple by Lindsey for the only run of the game.  Megan also had a single in the 4th, but was left stranded.  However, one run was enough, as the Aces sent home the Royals.

Bracket 5 - vs Hit Away Green.  Aces won 8-7.
Following the battle of the pitchers was the battle of the bats!  The fans thought we were in deep trouble when Hit Away's first batter reached on an error, followed by a single, two RBI doubles, a score on a wild pitch, and an RBI single for 4 runs before we got the 1st out of the inning.  However, the defense and pitching came through, and ended the inning with a fly-ball to right, a fielder's choice, and a strike out.  Amy's patience led to a lead-off walk in the bottom of the first, and she scored on a triple by LindseyBrytish brought Linsdey home with a single, and Megan walked on a full count.  Hit Away went to their 2nd pitcher at this point, to try and maintain the 4-2 lead.  However, a single by Kesha brought home Brytish, and Megan scored on a wild pitch to tie the game with no outs.  After a groundout, Kesha held at 3rd while Amber got on with a single.  Kelsea then slapped one past the shortstop to score Kesha, followed by a single by Kendall.  Somewhere in there Amber scored.  Amy walked for the 2nd time in the same inning to load the bases.  Lindsey ripped one up the middle to score two more runs, while Amy got tagged out going home.  After a final groundout, the Aces were up by a score of 8-4!  The battle wasn't over yet.  After a one-out walk in the 2nd, the next batter was hit by her own bunt in fair territory for the 2nd out.  Things were looking good, until a Hit Away scored two on an RBI double, followed by an RBI triple.  Another runner reached on an error before the final out was made.  However, the Aces still had a one run lead going into the bottom of the 2nd.  Megan reached on an error, and Kesha hit a single.  We were all set for another big inning, when a line drive to 2nd resulted in a double play, leaving a runner on 1st with two outs.  Amber followed with a single, but Kesha was caught in a run-down trying to take an extra base.  Rhiannon came in for the save in the 3rd, and got the first batter on a groundout.  Then she had to face another former Aces player, who fouled off 7 pitches before flying out to Amy in center.  Hit Away got a hit up the middle, but the next ball Lindsey fielded and got the force at 2nd to end the game!

Bracket 6 - Championship Game - vs CF Blaze.  Aces won 1-0.
The Aces had the home team advantage for the 3rd straight game.  Although the first Blaze batter reached on defensive error, and advanced on a stolen base and a sac bunt, Brytish made an incredible catch from shortstop of a ball that dropped just behind the bag at 3rd base.  The runner on third had already taken off for home, thinking the ball wasn't catchable.  Brytish tagged 3rd to get the double play!  For the Aces, Amy reached on error, but was forced out at 2nd. Megan then hit an RBI double, and was tagged out trying to stretch it to a triple, but the run had already scored.  Rhiannon got 3-up-3-down in the 2nd.  Kesha led off the 2nd with a single, and advanced on an error and a sac bunt, but was caught at the plate. Rhiannon allowed one hit on with one out in the 3rd.  The next batter hit a line drive to Megan at 3rd, who quickly fired to 1st to get the double play on the runner who had broken for 2nd.  In the 4th, the Blaze led off with a single.  The runner advanced on a sac bunt, but had to hold on a fly-out to Amy in center.  The next batter hit a single which moved the runner to 3rd, but a groundout to Megan at 3rd left two runners stranded.  Lindsey led off with a double in the 4th, but was left stranded.  The Blaze had one batter reach on a bad call in the 5th, but another line drive to Megan at 3rd ended the game with the Aces on top.

Bracket 7 - the IF Game - vs CF Blaze.  Aces won 4-3.
The Aces once again had the home team advantage for the final game, which paid off.  The Blaze started out with a lead off walk.  When the runner tried to steal, Megan at catcher fired the ball to Lindsey at short.  The throw was a little high, but perfectly inside 2nd base.  Lindsey jumped high to make the catch, and came down on top of the runner heading to the bag.  Lindsey held on to the ball for the out.  The next Blaze batter also walked, and advanced on a single, then scored on another single before we got out of the inning.  Amy led of with a single for the Aces, and advanced on a single by Brytish, and scored on a double by Megan to tie the game at 1-1.  After a strikeout, the Blaze got a double, followed by two walks to load the bases.  The next batter hit a grounder to Kelsea at 3rd, who fired it to Megan for the out at the plate.  With bases loaded, a grounder up the middle was trouble for the Aces who couldn't get to 2nd with the ball for the force, and two runs scored.  In the bottom of the inning, things weren't looking so good as Amber reached on error with one out, but was forced out at 2nd, and a groundout left one on base, leaving the Blaze leading 3-1.  In the top of the 3rd, one Blaze runner walked on one out, and was forced out at 2nd, and the Blaze also left a runner stranded.  The Aces luck changed in the bottom of the 3rd, as Lindsey hit a single on one out.  Brytish hit into a fielder's choice, but the Blaze couldn't make the play at 2nd.  Megan then brought home another run with a double, followed by an RBI single by Kesha to tie the game at 3-3.  Kayla followed with another single to load the bases again. Amber was at bat, when Megan was able to score on a wild pitch to give the Aces the win and the tournament championship.
