12U Texas Aces Hold Their Own in 14U Bracket
For a change of pace, and in hopes of seeing some stronger pitching in the early games of a tournament, the Aces played up in the 14U bracket.  The 12U Aces did a great job playing against the older girls.  The parents and coaches were very proud of their performance.  In the last two bracket games, the defense was flawless, and the girls were hitting the ball throughout the tournament.  They just couldn't always get the hits or manufacture the runs when they needed them.  However, they held their own, and accomplished their goal of playing at least one more than the guaranteed minimum number of games!

Pool Game 1 - vs Texas Fever
In their first pool game against the Texas Fever, Amy led off the first inning with a hit, and later scored on a wild pitch.  Rhiannon walked the first Fever batter, and the next batter hit a looping fly-ball over Amber's head at 2nd, but wait!!! Amber made a spectacular catch and turned a double play (with the runner 2/3 of the way to 2nd, thinking there was NO WAY anyone could catch that ball!)  The Fever followed with three hits, and scored 2 runs before the side was retired.  Megan led off with a single in the 2nd, but was tagged out coming home on a great bunt by KeshaRhiannon walked another in the bottom of the inning, and another batter reached on an Aces error.  However, after the next batter bunted, and a bad throw to 1st, Kendall backed up the throw from right field and threw out the runner trying to come home!  Rhiannon also struck out two in the inning.  Amy walked in the third, and Amber hit a single.  Kayla reached on error as Amy scored.  Lindsey hit a single and brought in two more runs.  The Fever had one hit in the bottom of the third, but the Aces got the next batter on a groundout before time was called.

Pool Game 2 - vs TCB 14U
In the 2nd pool game, the Aces saw a lot of familiar faces as they played the TCB 14U team.  Kayla and MarKaye battled as pitchers, each allowing only one hit, with no runs scoring on either side.  One error was credited to TCB.  Kendall led off the game with a perfect bunt for the Aces only hit, and Janet on TCB hit a double against Kayla in the 2nd, and each team left runners stranded after walks and hits into fielder's choice.

Bracket Game 1 - vs Tejas Titans
In the first bracket game, Amy again led off the game with a strong single, but was forced out at 2nd.  Kayla drove in Amber with a groundout to 2nd to put the Aces on the board early.  The Titans had two baserunners on two hits on two outs in the 1st, but both were left stranded.  Neither team had any baserunners in the 2nd.  Kendall led off the 3rd with a hit, but was caught stealing 2nd.  In the bottom of the inning, the Aces allowed two runners to reach base on two consecutive errors, when, after getting the next two batters out, the Titans hit a double to bring home two runs.  Lindsey walked in the 4th, but was caught stealing.  Kayla walked one in the 4th, but quickly took care of the runner when she caught a hard hit line drive and got the double play at 1st.  Kesha had a single in the 5th, but was forced out at 2nd, and Rhiannon was left stranded.  The Titans had one runner reach on an error in the 5th.    Amber hit a safe bunt in the 6th, but was tagged out trying to score on a wild pitch.  The Titans had a runner reach on an error in the bottom of the 6th, but the runner was tagged out on on double play on a sac bunt after rounding 2nd a little too much.  The Titans had the home team advantage, and time expired with them in the lead by one.

Bracket Game 2 - vs TCB 14U
The Aces faced TCB again in the tournament, but this time in the loser's bracket where one team had to go home after the game.  This time the Aces had the home team advantage in a pitching duel between Rhiannon and Katie.  After 3-up 3-down for TCB in the 1st, Amber reached on error, then Lindsey hit into a fielder's choice, but Amber was safe with a TCB error, and Megan walked to load the bases.  However, a strike out and a groundout left all three runners stranded.  In the top of the 2nd, Mandy (TCB) was hit by Rhiannon's change-up, and advanced to 2nd on a sac bunt by Katie (TCB).  However, Mandy was called out at 2nd on the Look-Back rule.  The Aces had 3-up 3-down in the 2nd, and  Rhiannon got three strikeouts in the 3rd.  In the bottom of the 3rd, the Aces had one baserunner when Amber reached on a TCB error, but she was left stranded.  Janet (TCB) led off with the first hit of the game in the 4th, but was tagged out on a great double-play by Lindsey at 2nd, as Sunny (TCB) hit into a ground-out.   Sandra (TCB) followed with another hit and advanced to 2nd, but Mandy grounded out to leave her stranded.  Brytish led off the bottom of the 5th with a single, and advanced on a perfect sac bunt by KelseaBrytish took an extra base with some agressive baserunning, and slid under the tag at 3rd.    Kesha followed with another textbook bunt for a hit, as the fielder tried to hold Brytish at 3rd.  In an attempt to get Brytish leading off the bag, TCB threw the ball to the 3rd, but it got past the 3rd baseman, which allowed Brytish to score the winning run of the game!

Bracket Game 3 - vs Gulf Coast NRG
After leaving the ballpark at midnight Saturday night, and losing an hour for daylight savings time, the Aces had to show back up at 7:00 am Sunday to get ready for another game after only a few hours of sleep.  It really showed as they struggled during the early innings of the game, and things just didn't go their way!  Kayla struck out the first batter on a full count, and the next batter hit a single.  The next batter hit into a fielder's choice to Lindsey at short, but the next batter hit a double to bring home a run for NRG.  Kayla struck out the final batter of the inning.  Amy led off with a fly-out to right, followed by a single down the 3rd base line by AmberLindsey reached on an error, and Kayla hit into a fielder's choice which got Amber at 3rd.  Another groundout left two runners stranded.  After striking out the first batter on a full count, Kayla struggled and walked the next batter.  She struck out another on a full count, but walked the next as a run scored on a wild pitch.  (Could it have been the 4 hours sleep?)  Rhiannon came in and finished out the inning.  Kelsea led off with a bunt for a hit in the bottom of the 2nd, while Megan hit a hard line drive back to the pitcher who made a great stop.  Rhiannon and Kendall both walked to load the bases, but a fielder's choice took the lead runner at the plate, and a strike out left three stranded.  Rhiannon had 3-up 3-down in the top of the 3rd.  In the bottom of the 3rd, Kayla reached on error, and Kelsea hit another bunt for a hit, but both runners were left stranded.  Rhiannon allowed one hit in the top of the 4th, but the runner was left stranded on two groundouts and a strikeout.  Rhiannon led off the bottom of the 4th with a hit, and advanced on a sac bunt by Kendall, but was left stranded after two groundouts, leaving the Aces scoreless in the game.
