Texas Aces District Champions Fourth Straight Year!
The Texas Aces favorite competition for the last three years at district has been Lake Jackson Knockouts (2000) and the Lake Jackson Wipeout (2001 & 2002).  This year several of the girls that played for those teams joined forces with the Texas Aces, to help form the strongest Texas Aces team to date.  And we finally got to play a tournament in their hometown!  The Aces got the weekend started Friday evening with a family fish fry at Lana Jo's house in Lake Jackson. Thanks to her family for hosting the team!  The Aces had two late games scheduled for Friday night, and planned to return for an early afternoon game on Saturday.  However, the Aces started their 9:00 pm game, but after only playing two innings, the game was suspended due to lightning and rain. The team was asked to return to finish that game at 7:30 am on Saturday, with the next game to follow immediately.  The tournament director was determined to finish the 14U age division as scheduled on Saturday.  However, the championship game didn't start until 1:45 am on Sunday! The Aces went undefeated once again to take the District tournament for the 4th straight year. Emily suffered a dislocated shoulder during the 4th bracket game, but was able to return for the championship game to cheer the team on.  Take care of that injury Emily and get back on the field soon!  Congratulations Aces on another victory!

Bracket 1 - vs Angleton XLR8.  Aces won 14-1.
The first bracket game started around 9 pm on Friday.   The Aces batted first, and put four runs on the board with singles from Amber, Lindsey, Emily, and Lana Jo, and a double from Siera.  Megan also reached on a walk.  Lana Jo pitched for the Aces.  The first two runners reached on an error and a bunt, but three outs left both stranded.  The Aces put up two more runs in the 2nd, with a safe bunt by Lindsey, a sac bunt by Megan where she reached on an error that scored a run, and a dropped 3rd strike that resulted in another run.  One batter grounded out, and Lana Jo struck out two in the bottom of the 2nd.  The game was then suspended due to lightning and rain.

The game resumed at 7:30 am on Saturday at the top of the 3rd.  The Aces batted around in the inning, putting up 8 more runs.  Lana Jo, Lindsey, Megan, and Emily walked in the inning, and Stephanie was hit by a pitch.  Ashley and Lana Jo reached on errors and Ashley reached on a dropped 3rd strike which all scored runs.  Kendall got two RBIs on a bunt, and Kesha scored another on a sac bunt.  The first batter for the XLR8 reached on catcher interference, and advanced on an error, and scored their only run on a ground out.

Bracket 2 - vs Texas Dragons.  Aces won 2-1.
The second bracket game started around 8:15 am.  Siera started the game for the Aces.  The first batter for the Dragons led off with a hit.  After the runner advanced on a sac bunt, a ground out and a strike out left the runner stranded.  Amber led off with a hit for the Aces, but was left stranded.  Siera struck out the side in the 2nd, although one batter reached on a hit by pitch. The Aces had 3-up-3-down in the 2nd.  After a ground out in the 3rd, the next batter for the Dragons hit a single and advanced on an error.  Amber made a great catch of a fly ball to left field, and almost doubled off the runner on 2nd, but she slipped in the wet grass.  The next batter hit a double that brought home the first run of the game.  On a grounder to short, Lindsey tagged the runner advancing from 2nd, but the umpire said she missed the tag.  On the next pitch, the runner on 1st advanced towards 2nd, and Megan threw to Kendall at 2nd, who threw to Lindsey at short, to pick off the runner on 3rd.  In the bottom of the 3rd, Kendall walked, but was doubled up on a line drive out.  Rhiannon came in to pitch in the top of the 4th.  On one out, the Dragons hit a single, but Rhiannon struck out the next two to leave the runner stranded at 1st. On two outs in the bottom of the 4th, the Aces tried to rally with two back-to-back singles from Rhiannon and Siera, but both were left stranded.  Rhiannon struck out two more in the top of the 5th, and the last batter grounded out.  The Aces went into the bottom of the 5th down by one run, with time close to expiring.  Kesha hit a slap from the left, but right at the pitcher for an out.  Kendall then hit a safe bunt to reach base, and advanced on a passed ball and a wild pitch.  Emily reached on a fielder's choice as the Dragons held Kendall at 3rd.  A pop-up to the catcher resulted in the 2nd out.  With two runners in scoring position and two outs, Coach Kim gave Lindsey the signal to bunt, and she laid down a perfect one that caught the Dragons off guard as Kendall scored and Lindsey went to 1st.  With Emily on 3rd, Lindsey then headed for 2nd.  The catcher threw to 2nd, and Lindsey retreated as Emily headed for the bag.  The 2nd baseman threw back to the catcher, but the pitcher deflected the throw to allow Emily to score without a play.  Now the Aces were ahead by one, and killed the clock to win the game!

Bracket 3 - vs Texas Ice.  Aces won 3-0.
Lana Jo started the game for the Aces.  One batter reached on an error, but was left stranded on two ground outs and a strike out.  Amber led off with a single, and scored on a triple by Lindsey.  Megan hit a sac fly to score Lindsey.  After a fly out to center, Siera hit a single, but was forced out at 2nd for the 3rd out.   Both sides were 3-up-3-down on ground outs in the 2nd.  After a strike out in the 3rd, Lana Jo walked one, and the next batter hit a single.  The Aces got the lead runner going to 3rd on a throw from Kelsea to Lindsey to Megan at 3rd as the next batter walked.  The runners advanced to 2nd and 3rd on a wild pitch.  On a 1-2 count on the next batter, the batter fouled one into her face and had to be removed from the game. (We hope you  get better soon Shelby!)  Lana Jo struck out the sub.  On one out, Lindsey hit a single, and scored on a two out single by Rhiannon to put the Aces up by 3.  Siera came in to pitch in the 4th, and walked one, but a fly out to Kesha in left, a pop up to Amber at 2nd, and another fly out to Kesha in left where she made a great diving catch, left one stranded for a shutout.

Bracket 4 - vs Lake Jackson Legends.  Aces won 3-0.
Lindsey walked on one out in the 1st.  Rhiannon hit a single on two outs.  Kesha followed with a double to bring home a run, and Kendall followed with a single to bring home another run.  Kesha got caught in a run down off 3rd base while Kelsea batted.  Rhiannon pitched for the Aces.  She walked the first batter, but struck out the next.  Two ground outs left the runner stranded.   On one out in the 2nd, Emily fouled off one to deep left, then on the next pitch, she swung and dislocated her shoulder.  After a brief delay, she headed for the ER, as Siera came in for her and walked.  Stephanie was safe on a bunt.  Amber followed with another bunt to load the bases.  However, on a line drive to 2nd, the 2nd baseman caught the runner off 2nd for a quick double play which left two stranded.  The Legends were 3-up-3-down in the 2nd with two ground out and a strike out.  Megan walked to start the 3rd, but was out at 2nd on a fielder's choice by Rhiannon.  Ashley went in to run for Rhiannon.  Kesha laid down a perfect sac bunt, and Ashley headed from 1st to 3rd and was safe on the throw from 1st.  With the next batter up, Ashley got the catcher to try to pick her off of 3rd.  What resulted was a better-than-textbook run down between 3rd and home, with Ashley dodging the tag left and right, as she always knew exactly where the ball was.  When she was near home, she saw the throw go up instead of down, and she slid to the bag to score before the catcher could bring down the tag!  The Legends were 3-up-3-down in the bottom of the 3rd with a ground out and two strike outs.  Siera walked on one out in the 4th, but was doubled off on a line drive to 3rd. After a pop up back to the pitcher for one out, the Legends hit a single for their first and only hit of the game.  A ground out and a strike out left the runner stranded and kept the shutout intact.

Bracket 5 - vs Texas Dragons.  Aces won 4-1.
In the early morning hours, the Aces faced the Dragons for the 2nd time.  The Dragons were home team this time.  Both teams had been at the ball park since 6:30 or 7 am, with the Aces into their 5th game, and the Dragons in their 7th game.  The championship game was scheduled for a full 7 innings.  It looked like it might be down to which team could stay awake the longest!

Both sides were 3-up-3-down in the 1st inning.  In the 2nd, Kendall hit a single but was out on a fielder's choice, and one batter was left stranded.  It looked like trouble in the bottom of the 2nd when the Dragons hit two back-to-back singles with no outs, but on a grounder to short, Lindsey quickly tagged the runner going to 3rd, and threw to 1st for the double play!   Stephanie walked in the 3rd but was caught stealing.  Amber singled but was left stranded. Rhiannon walked the lead off batter in the bottom of the 3rd.  The runner advanced on a sac bunt and a wild pitch, and scored on a ground out.  The Aces answered back in the 4th as Megan led off with a single and advanced on a sac bunt by Rhiannon.  Kendall followed with a single.  After a strike out, Megan scored on a wild pitch, and Kendall scored on an error. Kelsea hit a single but was left stranded.  In the bottom of the 4th, Lana Jo made a great catch in center field for the first out.  Rhiannon walked one after a ground out, but another ground out left one stranded.  The Aces were 3-up-3-down in the 5th.  The Dragons had one batter reach on error with two outs on the bottom of the 5th, but the runner was left stranded.  Megan led off with a single in the 6th, and advanced on a wild pitch and a ground out.  Kendall grounded out to score Megan.  The Dragons had one single in the 6th but was left stranded.  Kelsea led off with a triple in the 7th, and scored on a sac bunt by Kesha .  One batter reached on an error in the bottom of the 7th, but a strike out, a fly out to right, and a ground out left the runner stranded and the Aces the champions!
