Texas Aces Take 1st in Tomball
The Texas Aces won the Holiday in the Park tournament hosted by the 16U Texas Sting held in Tomball November 15-17.  With pitcher Lana Jo out sick for the weekend (Get well soon, Lana Jo!), Rhiannon had to pitch all the bracket games.  A first round bye and staying in the winner's bracket kept the games to a minimum, and the team did well.  The bats were hot throughout the bracket games, and the defense was awesome.  A few errors were made here and there, and there were a few missed scoring opportunities, but the girls recovered from them all and stayed undefeated to take 1st place. They beat the Texas Sting, the Texas Bullets, the Katy Express, and the Sting again in the championship game. Way to go Aces!  Congratulations to the Texas Sting for coming all the way through the losers bracket back to the championship game.  Also thanks to Amanda for helping us out in the pool games and early bracket games. Sorry you couldn't make the championship game, but we saved you a trophy!

Pool Game 1 - vs Humble Cobras.  Aces lost 5-1.
In our first pool game, guest player Amanda (who can still play 12U next spring) pitched for the Aces.  The 2nd year 14U Cobras got in a few hits, but Amanda also struck out a few, too.  A couple of walks and a couple of defensive errors allowed the Cobras to score a few runs.  Kendall and Megan each hit singles in the 1st inning, but were left stranded.  Ashley led off with a double in the 2nd and came home on a single by Kesha, for the Aces only run.  Rhiannon pitched one shut-out inning in the third.

Pool Game 2 - vs Katy Express.  Aces lost 1-0.
In the second pool game, Stephanie pitched for the Aces.  Although the Express had no hits in the game, they had several base runners on walks, but the Aces got out of the first two innings with none scoring.  However, the Express scored on a wild pitch in the 3rd.  Megan and Ashley had hits for the Aces in the game.

Bracket 1 - vs Texas Sting.  Aces won 5-2.
The Aces had a bye in the first round, and played their first bracket game Saturday afternoon.  The Sting had the home team advantage. Megan hit a 2-out single in the first, but was left stranded.  The Sting led off with a single in the 1st, and but the lead runner was out on a force at 2nd grounder knocked down by Kelsea at 3rd and thrown to Lindsey at short by Megan at catcher.  Then on a single to Kesha in left field, the lead runner was tagged out at 2nd after rounding the base a little too far.  Rhiannon struck out the next batter to leave one stranded.  Ashley led off the 2nd with a double, and advanced to third on a single to shallow right by RhiannonKelsea followed with a safe bunt to load the bases with one out.  Kesha was patient and walked to bring home the Aces first run.  Amber reached on a fielder's choice that scored one run, but got the force at 3rd.  Two were left stranded but the Aces were on the board with 2 for the inning.  The Sting led off the bottom of the 2nd with a single, then scored one run on another single.  The third batter hit a safe bunt while advancing the runner.  However, on a grounder to Amber playing 2nd, she tagged the runner going to 2nd base and got the batter at 1st for a double play!  Another hard hit ball back to Rhiannon that deflected away from the infielders allowed another run to score for the Sting.  Lindsey snagged a hard hit line drive at short to end the inning with the score tied 2-2.  The Aces had 3-up-3-down in the 3rd.  The Sting's first batter reached when a grounder took a bad hop to Amber, but the runner was caught in another double play on a pop-up to Lindsey at short who threw to Kendall at first for two outs.  Rhiannon started hitting her grove then, and struck out the next batter.

Emily led off the top of the 4th with a single and stole 2nd, and advanced on a single by RhiannonKelsea laid down a perfect bunt to load the bases.  After one out with an infield fly, Amber hit a single to bring home one run and keep the bases loaded. Kendall hit a bunt, but got hit in fair territory by the ball, and was called out.  Megan hit a timely two-out single to bring home two more runs for the Aces.  Lindsey followed with a single, but two were left stranded on a ground out.  Rhiannon struck out the first two batters in the bottom of the 4th, and a grounder to Amber ended the game with the Aces leading 5-2!

Bracket 2 - vs Texas Bullets.  Aces won 6-2.
The Aces had to come back for the 8 am Sunday morning game, with quite a chill in the air!  The Bullets were home team.  Emily hit a single in the 1st, but was left stranded.  The Bullets had one base runner on two outs who reached on a defensive error in the bottom of the inning, but another ground out left the runner stranded.  Rhiannon led off the 2nd with a single, followed by a safe bunt by Lindsey.  The runners advanced on a ground out.  Kendall hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Rhiannon (Amanda was running for her).  The Aces had a two-out rally as Stephanie followed with a single to score Lindsey, and Amber hit a double to score Stephanie from 1st base, to put the Aces up 3-0.  Stephanie got a workout in center field in the bottom of the 2nd, as the first batter hit a line drive to center and Stephanie made a great catch for the first out.  The next batter hit a grounder to center for a single.  On another line drive to center, Stephanie made the catch again, and threw to Kendall at 1st for the double play as the runner was almost to 2nd, thinking there was no way that one could be caught!  Both sides had 3-up-3-down in the 3rd. Kendall hit a single on two outs in the 4th, and Stephanie walked, but both were left stranded.  The Bullets led off with a single in the bottom of the 4th, and scored as the next batter reached on an error as the ball was thrown past 1st base.  The batter made it to 3rd on the error.  On the next grounder, the Aces chose to get the out at first and allow the runner to score.  Two more ground outs ended the inning with the Aces still up 3-2.

Emily led off the 5th with a single, followed by a single from MeganAmanda advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt, but was safe at 1st when the fielder had to jump to catch the ball!  With bases loaded, Rhiannon was hit by a pitch for an RBI.  A fielder's choice took the runner going home for the first out.  After a pop-up held the runners on base, Amanda scored on a Bullets error while Kendall was batting.  Kendall walked to load the bases again, and Stephanie walked for another RBI, giving the Aces 3 more runs.  The Bullets led off the bottom of the 5th with a single, but a strikeout and two quick ground outs back to the pitcher gave the Aces the win.

Bracket 3 - vs Katy Express.  Aces won 5-0.
The Aces were home team for this one bracket game.  The Express grounded out then popped up to Megan at 3rd for the first two outs, then got one single on a hit to shallow left field.  A line drive to right field looked like trouble, but Ashley made a spectacular running catch and kept control of the ball for the 3rd out.  The Aces bats were on fire from the start, as Amber led off with a single, followed by a single from EmilyMegan brought them both home with a double.  After one out, Rhiannon singled in another run.  Kesha singled on two outs, and Kelsea followed with a safe bunt to load the bases.  Stephanie walked on a full count for an RBI, and the Aces were on board with 4 in the 1st inning!  In the top of the 2nd, Rhiannon struck out the first batter, and the next grounded to Emily at 1st.  One batter reached on an error, but was quickly caught stealing 2nd by Kelsea for the 3rd out.  Megan singled on one out in the bottom of the 2nd.  Ashley bunted and beat the throw for another hit, but both were left stranded.  In the top of the 3rd, the Express got one more hit after a strikeout and a ground out, but another ground out left the runner stranded on 1st.  Kelsea singled on one out in the 3rd, but was out on a fielder's choice at 2nd.  Amber rallied on two with a single, and Emily followed with another single to score another run, to put the Aces up by 5.  Time ran out with Kendall up to bat.

Bracket 4 - Championship Game - vs Texas Sting.  Aces won 3-2.
The Texas Sting came all the way through the loser's bracket to face the Texas Aces in the championship game.  Once again the Sting had the home team advantage.  On one out in the 1st, Emily hit a double and advanced on a single by Megan.  However, on a safe bunt by Ashley, Emily was caught going for the plate.  A ground out left two stranded.  The Sting led off with a single and advanced on a sac bunt.  Another single advanced the runner to 3rd.  After another out, a single drove in a run, and a ground out left two stranded.  On one out in the 2nd, Lindsey dropped one over 1st base for a single. Kelsea followed with a single up the middle.  Kesha hit into a fielder's choice which should have taken the lead runner at 3rd, but Lindsey was safe on an error.  Stephanie grounded out to right field with bases loaded to score a run for the Aces. Emily hit one deep to right, but it was caught to leave three on base.  Rhiannon shut down the side on 5 pitches in the 2nd with two ground outs back to the pitcher and one strikeout.  Megan led off the 3rd with a single and advanced on a passed ball.  Ashley walked after a patient at bat (8 pitches).  Rhiannon followed with a double to bring home a run.  Two ground outs and a strikeout left two stranded.  The Sting had one batter reach on an error in the 3rd.

Kesha led off the 4th with a single to left center.  Two consecutive hits to short just outside 2nd base got the force at 2nd both times.  Megan rallied on two outs with a single, and Ashley walked on a full count to load the bases.  However, as Emily ran to third on the walk, the Sting catcher threw to 3rd where no one was waiting, and Emily scored on the error.  A fly out left two stranded, with the Aces up 3-1.  The Sting led off the bottom of the 4th with a single, and another reached on an error with one out.  The runners held at 1st and 2nd on a fly out to Kesha in left field for the 2nd out. After time had expired,  Rhiannon had the next batter on a 0-2 count when the runner from 2nd left for 3rd. Megan tried to get the runner stealing, but the ball hit Lindsey's foot and went to the fence, allowing the runner to score.  On the next pitch, however, the batter grounded to Amber at 2nd, ending the game with the Aces up 3-2.  What a way to end it!  Way to go Aces!!
