Texas Aces Make a Strong Showing in 16U
The young 14U Texas Aces team, made up of five 7th graders and seven 8th graders, stepped up to the plate against 16U teams filled with Sophomores and Juniors, many of which play for their high school varsity and JV teams.  The Aces went undefeated though all their pool games and their first bracket game on Saturday, only to come back half asleep on Sunday morning and give away the next bracket game without much of a fight.  However, the team finally woke up, and were determined to play on, and beat another 16U team, and also sent home one 14U team before falling to the strong Texas Peppers 16U team after a very close game.  The Aces finished the tournament tied for 5th place out of a field of 21 teams -- 16-16U  and 5-14U.  Congratulations, girls, on a job well done!  All of you 8th graders got a taste of what you'll be facing when you get to high school ball next year!

Bracket 2 - vs Cy-Fair Intruders Black 16U.  Aces lost 3-9.
The Aces returned for an 8:00 am game on Sunday morning, but did not seem awake and ready for their first game.  Rhiannon started the game, and the first batter hit a double, followed by a single that advanced the runner to 3rd.  An error on a fielded bunt allowed a run to score, before the Aces got the outs on a fly out to 2nd, a fielder's choice that took the lead runner going to 3rd, and a ground out to first.  In the bottom of the 1st, after a ground out, Kelsea walked, but a line drive to short and a ground out left Kelsea stranded.  The Intruders led off with a single in the 2nd, and the runner stole 2nd and advanced on a sac bunt.  The next batter reached on a bunt as the Aces held the runner at 3rd.  The runner scored on another bunt as the Aces took the out at 1st.  The next batter grounded out leaving one stranded.  In the bottom of the 2nd, after a strike out, Ashley and Kesha each hit singles.  After another strike out, Emily hit a two-out double to bring home two runs, and tie the game up at 2-2.  It looked like we were still in the game after that inning, but the girls still weren't awake.  The Aces allowed five consecutive hits as Rhiannon's pitches weren't moving, and the balls got hit just past the fielders, before they got the first out on a sac bunt, then a strike out.  Another single brought home the 5th run of the inning, but the runner was caught stealing to end it.  However, the damage was done.  On two outs in the bottom of the 3rd, Siera hit a single, followed by a single from RhiannonLindsey followed with another single to bring home a run, but a ground out left two stranded, and the Aces still down by 4 runs, 7-3.  Lana Jo came in for the Aces, and the first batter hit a single.  The next batter hit into a fielder's choice as the Aces took the lead runner at 2nd.  The next batter hit a bunt, but ran into the ball out of the box.  The Aces were slow to try to make a play, because the ump never made the call.  One runner scored as the Aces tried to react to the bad call and make a play, and the batter ended up on 3rd on what should have been the 2nd out.  Lana Jo struck out the next batter, but a wild pitch allowed the runner on 3rd to score.  A fly out to 2nd ended the half inning.  The Aces couldn't get it going after that, with a ground out, and a called strike out on a very high pitch, and another ground out ended the game.
