Texas Aces 14U Undefeated in Pearland Lady Stros Tournament
Mother Nature hasn't cooperated for softball this fall, and the Lady Stros Halloween tournament that was rained out from October 25-27, 2002, was rescheduled to November 1-3.  However, the rains shortened the tournament and the 14U bracket was called after only one round.  It's absurd to assign placement of teams after only one bracket game, although trophies were passed out!  The 14U Aces remained undefeated, after shutting out the Bizerk 4-0 and the Pearland Kruzers 3-0 in pool games, and defeating the Bizerk 4-2 in bracket.  The highlight of the tournament was Megan's 2-run out-of-the-park homerun in the bracket game against to Bizerk.  The shot went over the fence in left field, giving the Aces a 2 run lead in the bottom of the 3rd.  Congratulations Megan!!!

Other 14U bracket winners were 14U Young Guns over Dickinson Slammers, Katy Force over No Limit, and Texas Rookies over Pearland Kruzers.  The Aces were waiting to play the Young Guns, and the Force were scheduled to play the Rookies, when the tournament was called.

Pool Game 1 - vs Bizerk.  Aces won 4-0.
Lana Jo pitched for the Aces, and allowed one baserunner in the 1st on a hit-by-pitch, but the runner was left stranded with a fly ball to Amber at 2nd, a grounder to Amber, and a line drive to Rhiannon (or Kendall?) at 1st.  The Aces had one baserunner on a walk in the 1st, but the runner was caught stealing.  On one out in the 2nd, the Bizerk got one single, followed by a walk and another single to load the bases.  But Lana Jo struck out the next batter, and a ground out left bases loaded.  Lana Jo reached on an error in the 2nd.  After one out, Kelsea followed with a single as Lana Jo moved to 2nd.  Kesha followed with a sac bunt to advance the runners.  Stephanie hit a double to deep left field to bring home two runs and get the Aces on the board. Lana Jo walked the leadoff batter in the 3rd, and a single put two on the bases.  The runners advanced to 2nd and 3rd on stolen bases.  On a line drive back to Lana Jo, she doubled-off the runner on 2nd for two outs.  An unintentional bunt in front of Kelsea at catcher got the 3rd out at 1st.  After one out in the bottom of the inning, Amber and Emily walked, and Megan brought both home with a single.  Megan was tagged out going for an extra base as time expired.

Pool Game 2 - vs Pearland Kruzers.  Aces won 3-0.
Rhiannon pitched another no-hitter in the 2nd pool game.  The Aces got two quick outs on a bunt to Kendall at 1st and a grounder to Rhiannon.  One batter reached on an Aces error, then Rhiannon walked two (the umpire did not give much of a strike zone) to load the bases.  However, the runner on 2nd was called out on the look-back rule.  The Aces got two quick outs in the 2nd, then Ashley was hit by a pitch.  Kesha followed with a walk.  Rhiannon knocked in one run with a single before the side was retired.  The Kruzers had one baserunner on a walk in the 2nd.  On one out, Emily hit a triple, and came home on a single by Megan.  The Kruzers had one more baserunner in the 3rd on a walk, but the runner was caught stealing 3rd.  In the bottom of the inning, Ashley hit a single on one out, and Rhiannon brought her home with another single, putting the Aces on top 3-0 when time expired.

Bracket 1 - vs Bizerk.  Aces won 4-2.
The weather was cold and it was raining as we played our first bracket game.  Lana Jo struggled in the cold rain, and walked the lead-off batter.  After one hit and another walk, Stephanie caught a fly ball in center field for the 1st out, and threw the ball in quick to hold the runner at 3rd.  Lana Jo walked in a run, and Rhiannon came in to finish the inning.  Stephanie led off with a single, but was caught going for extra bases.  In the 2nd, after a strikeout, Rhiannon walked one and allowed a hit up the middle for two baserunners. Kesha caught a line drive in left field for the 2nd out, but an Aces error on the next batter allowed one run to score.  Megan led off with a single in the 2nd, and Emily walked.  Kelsea grounded out to advance both runners to scoring position.  Kesha hit into a fielder's choice, which caught Megan trying to come home. Rhiannon hit a double to bring home 2 runs and tie the score 2-2 before the side was retired.  Bizerk was 3-up-3-down in the 3rd with one groundout to Amber and two to Rhiannon.  On one out in the 3rd, Amber hit a single and advanced to 2nd on a groundout. Then Megan cranked one over the fence in left field to put the Aces on top 4-2.  What a homerun!  (Megan got to keep the ball!) Emily followed with a single and Kelsea walked, but both were left stranded.  The Aces got the Bizerk 3-up-3-down again in the 4th, with a strikeout, a groundout to Kendall at 1st, and a groundout to Megan at 3rd.  Way to play Aces!  And again, congratulations Megan on that out-of-the-park HOMERUN!  That was the Aces first-ever out-of-the-park shot in a game.
