Texas Aces 14U Undefeated in First Tournament of the Fall Season
The Texas Aces played in their first tournament on October 13, 2002, after only two practices. The team missed Kendall who was out of town for the weekend.  Megan, Lana Jo, and Emily helped fill in at first base and did a great job.  Little sister Lauren even played one in one bracket game when we were missing two other girls.  All the girls did a great job in the tournament and the team was undefeated after 6 games.  They outscored their opponents 27-4, with one no-hitter, and three shut-outs. The bats came through when we needed them, and the defense was awesome!  This team is heading for a great season in 14U.

Pool Game 2 - vs No Limit.  Aces won 6-1.
(No Limit out of Santa Fe will be moving up to 16U in the Spring.) Rhiannon pitched for the Aces, and allowed one hit with three ground outs in the first inning.  The Aces followed with three ground outs. Rhiannon struck out two in the 2nd and had one ground out to first.  The Aces bats came alive in the 2nd, as Amber led off with a double (3 for 3 at this point!).  Lindsey walked, as Amber stole 3rd.  After a ground out, Kesha brought home Amber with a single, and Kelsea followed with a safe bunt to load the bases.  Rhiannon singled in Lindsey, and Emily hit into a fielder's choice that missed the play at the plate as Kesha slid home.  The next fielder's choice got the force at home for the 2nd out.  Lana Jo followed with a single to bring home Rhiannon, and Ashley walked with bases still loaded for another run. Amber lined out to short to end the inning, with the Aces up 5-0. Stephanie pitched the 3rd inning, and allowed one hit with one ground out, a fly out to center, and a fielder's choice that left a runner stranded. Lindsey was hit by a pitch in the 3rd, and scored on a single by Megan. Megan was left stranded on three ground outs.  The leadoff batter walked in the 4th, and scored on a ground out.  Time expired with the Aces leading 6-1.

Bracket 1 - vs Pearland Kruzers.  Aces won 3-2.
The Aces were shorthanded as a couple of players had to leave, so Lauren filled in and played left field.  Amber led off with a single, and advanced on a ground out to short.  Megan hit a single on a screamer line drive back to the pitcher (sorry Sarah!), but both runners were left stranded.  Two ground outs and a strikeout kept the Kruzers off the bases in the 1st.  Rhiannon walked in the 2nd, and Ashley singled on one out.  On two outs, Amber hit a double (4th for the day!) to bring home two runs.  Rhiannon struck out two, and one grounded out to 1st in the 3rd inning.  The Aces had 3-up-3-down in the bottom of the 3rd.  Rhiannon got two more strike outs and Stephanie caught a fly ball in center in the 4th.  Rhiannon led off the bottom of the 4th with a single, and scored on a double by Ashley. Lauren advanced Ashley to 3rd with a slap from the left side (way to go Lauren!), but Ashley was left stranded. Rhiannon walked the leadoff batter in the 5th (her only walk of the day).  Amber caught a line drive at 2nd.  The next batter reached on an Aces error, which allowed a run to score.  The runner advanced on another error, and stole home while the Aces weren't looking after a ground out.  However, Rhiannon struck out the final batter to end the game with the Aces ahead 3-2.

Bracket 2 - vs Queen of Clubs.  Aces won 2-0.
The Aces were home team this time, with Rhiannon pitching.  The first batter bunted and was thrown out.  The second batter hit a line drive to Kelsea at 3rd, and Rhiannon struck out the last batter on a called strike.  On two outs, Megan hit a single, followed by a single from Kesha, and both runners advanced on a wild pitch, but both were left stranded on a strikeout.  The Queens lead-off batter hit a single, followed by a pop-up to Rhiannon at pitcher.  After one strikeout, the next batter reached on a dropped 3rd strike, but a ground out back to the pitcher left two stranded. Rhiannon led off the 2nd with a single, followed by a single from Stephanie. Emily walked to load the bases.  On one out, a fielder's choice to the pitcher should have scored one run, as the catcher stepped way off the plate to field the throw, but the runner was ruled out.  Another hit to the pitcher took the out at the plate, and three were left stranded. Rhiannon struck out the side in the 3rd.  Megan led off the 3rd with a single, but was left stranded.  After a ground out to 2nd and a ground out to 3rd, the next batter reached on a single.  A strikeout left the runner stranded.  On one out in the bottom of the 4th, Lana Jo hit a single, and advanced on a wild pitch. Ashley followed with a single that advanced Lana Jo to 3rd. Amber followed with a single (or fielder's choice) to load the bases. Lindsey followed with a double to bring home two runs to win the game!  (Since time had expired, only one run officially counted, but it still goes in our book!)

Bracket 3 - vs No Limit.  Aces won 7-0.
The Aces were visitors, with Lana Jo pitching.  Amber walked in the 1st, but was out on a double play ground ball to 2nd. Lana Jo got 3-up-3-down for the Aces with a fly ball to short, a pop foul that Kelsea at catcher made a great catch on, and a grounder to 2nd.  The Aces turned on the bats and found every hole in the defense in the 2nd, as Lana Jo led off with a single and advanced on a ground out.  Kesha followed with a single and advanced to 2nd. Stephanie brought home Lana Jo with a single.  Kelsea brought home Kesha with another single.  Ashley singled in Stephanie, and a ground out left two stranded.  No Limit lined out to Lindsey at short for one out.  They followed with a single, but the Aces took the lead runner on a force out with a grounder to 2nd.  A grounder to short left one stranded.  Lana Jo walked on one out in the 3rd, advanced on a single by Emily, and scored on an overthrown ball.  Kesha reached on a error as Emily scored.  Two ground outs left Kesha stranded.  No Limit hit a double in the 3rd, but the runner was left stranded. Ashley led off the 4th with a triple, followed by a single from RhiannonAshley scored on a wild pitch as Rhiannon advanced to 2nd.  Megan and Lana Jo both walked to load the bases.  Kesha followed with a single which scored Rhiannon, but Megan was tagged at home trying to score another run.  Rhiannon stopped a line drive at 1st, Lana Jo fielded a grounder back to the pitcher, and Lana Jo struck out the last batter to keep the shutout intact.
