Awesome are We!  Texas Aces Win Renegades Fall Classic!
The Texas Aces went undefeated in bracket play again in the Texas Renegades Fall Classic held in Sugar Land December 6-8.  This team is 13-0 in bracket play for the fall season!  The Aces missed Emily, who came out to cheer them on but couldn't play due to a broken foot. (Take care of injury and get back on the field soon, Emily!)  The Aces defeated the West Houston Storm and the Texas Outlaws on Saturday.  Returning on Sunday, the Aces faced the tough Sugar Land Outlaws for a very exciting game.  The game remained scoreless through 4 innings, with both teams getting a few hits, but awesome defense and pitching on both sides keeping the runners from scoring.  Finally, in the bottom of the 5th, with time running out, the Aces put together several consecutive hits by Amber, Lana Jo, and Megan to load the bases. Then, with time expired, Rhiannon hit a triple to bring home 3 runs and put the Aces in the Championship game.  The Outlaws came back after defeating the Sugar Land Heat in ITB, and, although the Outlaws took an early 1-0 lead in the 1st, the Aces came back with 2 runs in the 3rd and 1 more in the 4th to take the Championship game!  A W E S O M E is the only way to describe the team's efforts for this tournament!  Congratulations also to the Sugar Land Outlaws team for their 2nd place finish.

Pool Game 1 - vs West Houston Storm.  Aces won 5-0.
Lana Jo pitched 3 innings for the Aces, with two walks, and no hits.  In the 1st, Lindsey walked and scored on a dropped third strike, and Ashley walked and scored on a passed ball. Rhiannon hit a single and later scored on a wild pitch while Stephanie walked.  The Storm had one baserunner on an error that was caught stealing.   Ashley backed up first on a line drive that tipped Rhiannon 's glove, and the Aces still got the out at 1st.  Kendall and Amber both had singles in the 2nd, but both were left stranded.  One Storm batter walked in the 2nd, but Ashley fielded the next grounder to right and got the lead runner at 2nd.  Another walk put two on base, but the Aces took the lead runner at 3rd on a grounder.   Ashley hit a single in the 3rd, and scored on a wild pitch. Lana Jo hit a single in the 4th and scored on a sac bunt by Kesha. Kendall walked, and Amber followed with a single, but time expired before they could score.

Pool Game 2 - vs Sugar Land Heat.  Aces lost 3-4.
Stephanie and Rhiannon pitched for the Aces.  After two quick fly ball outs in the first, the Aces gave up 3 runs to the Heat after a walk and a hit by pitch put two on base, and a triple cleared the bases, followed by a single that brought home another run.   Amber led off with a single in the 1st, but was out on a fielder's choice.  The Aces answered back as Megan walked and Rhiannon brought home two with a double.  One Heat batter walked in the 2nd and scored on a single.  Kesha hit a single in the 2nd on two outs, but got caught in a run down going for 2nd.  The Aces fought to come back in the 3rd, as Kendall led off with a walk, and advanced on a single by AmberLindsey hit into a fielder's choice that took the runner going home.  Megan followed with a single that brought home one run, and Rhiannon walked, but two strikeouts left the bases loaded and the Aces short a couple of runs.

Bracket 1 - vs West Houston Storm.  Aces won 10-0.
Lana Jo pitched another no-hitter against the Storm.  The Storm had one baserunner in the 1st on a walk, but they were picked off at 1st base by Megan and RhiannonAmber led off the 1st with a walk and stole around to 3rd, then came home on a single by Lana JoLana Jo moved around to 3rd and scored on a groundout by MeganRhiannon followed with a single, and Lindsey walked, and both came home on a double by Stephanie. Kendall singled, and the runners advanced to 2nd and 3rd.   Kesha hit a bunt on the bounce and scored Stephanie. Kelsea grounded out to bring home another run, and Amber singled for yet another.   Lana Jo reached on a dropped 3rd strike as Amber scored.   Megan hit a single to bring home Lana Jo, and Rhiannon hit for another RBI.  In the 2nd, the Storm had one baserunner on a walk, that was out at 2nd on a fielder's choice, with one left stranded.  The game was called due to mercy rule after 1 1/2 innings!

Bracket 2 - vs Texas Outlaws.  Aces won 4-1.
Rhiannon struck out the side in the 1st inning.  In the bottom of the 1st, Lana Jo hit a double on one out.  Megan followed with a deep hit to center field which was caught, but Lana Jo tagged up and scored from 2nd.  In the 2nd, the Outlaws led off with a double, and advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch.  Amber caught a line drive at 2nd base, and attempted the double play at 3rd. However, the ball was overthrown, and the runner went for home.  The throw home was also high, so the runner scored.  The Aces had three quick outs in the 2nd and 3rd innings.  On two outs in the 3rd, the Outlaws hit a double, but the runner was left stranded on a high pop up to the pitcher.   In the 4th, the Outlaws hit a single on one out, but Rhiannon got a double play on a line drive back to the pitcher when the runner didn't tag up at 1st.  In the 4th, Lana Jo led off with a walk, and advanced on a single by Megan.  On one out, Lindsey reached on error as Lana Jo scored.  Two were left stranded.  The Aces got the Outlaws out in the 5th with a strikeout on a changeup, and fly ball to Ashley in right field, and another high pop up to the pitcher.  The Aces bats finally came alive in the bottom of the 5th, as Kelsea laid down a perfect rolling bunt on one out, and scored on a triple by AmberLana Jo brought home Amber with a sacrifice fly to right field.   Megan was up to bat when time expired, with the Aces on top 4-1.

Bracket 3 - vs Sugar Land Outlaws.  Aces won 3-0.
In a very tight game of pitching and defense, the Aces battled against the Sugar Land Outlaws on Sunday.   Rhiannon pitched for the Aces, and Danye pitched for the Outlaws.  The Outlaws led off with a single, but Kelsea fielded the next hit to 3rd and threw to Lindsey at short to get the lead runner.  The Outlaws followed with another single up the middle, advancing the other to 2nd.  A fly ball to Kesha in left held both runners, then Rhiannon struck out the last batter to leave two stranded.  The Aces had 3-up-3-down in the first.  In the 2nd, the Outlaws hit three in a row back to the pitcher for three straight outs.  Rhiannon led off the 2nd with a fly ball to shallow right, which was missed.  Ashley came in to run for RhiannonLindsey reached on another error, and Stephanie walked to load the bases.  Kendall bunted perfectly for the suicide squeeze, and it sure looked like Ashley slid across home before the catcher had the ball, but the blue didn't call it that way.  Kesha then hit a line drive to 1st, that caught Kendall in a double play and kept the game tied 0-0 after 2.  In the 3rd, the Outlaws hit another grounder back to the pitcher (4 in a row), then Rhiannon struck out the next. The Outlaws (Kimberly) then hit a double on a changeup that hung over the plate.  Rhiannon struck out Danye to leave one stranded.  It looked like the Aces were going to get it started in the 3rd, when on one out, Amber hit a single, followed by a double by Lana Jo.  However, two pop-ups left both stranded.   Rhiannon shared the groundouts with the rest of the infield in the 4th, as the Outlaws grounded out to Lana Jo at 2nd, Lindsey at short, and Kelsea at 3rd.  Once again, things looked good as Lindsey led off with a single in the 4th, but she had to hold at 1st on a line drive to center field.  A strike out and a pop-up left her stranded at 1st.  In the 5th, the Outlaws had three quick outs with a grounder to Amber at 2nd, a line drive to Kendall at 3rd, and another grounder back to Rhiannon at pitcher.  Time was running out as the Aces came up to bat in the bottom of the 5th.  After one out, Amber hit a bomb to left center field for a double.   Lana Jo then cranked one up the middle for a single, advancing Amber to 3rd.  With Megan at bat, Lana Jo moved to 2nd.  Megan hit to short, and the shortstop held the runner at 3rd, but threw too late to get Megan at 1st.  With bases loaded and one out, Rhiannon came up to bat.  She unloaded with a triple to left field that cleared the bases.  Time then expired.  Ball Game!  Aces win 3-0!

Bracket 4 - Championship Game - vs Sugar Land Outlaws.  Aces won 3-1.
The Championship game had the Aces as home team again, with Rhiannon pitching against Danye again.  Rhiannon fielded a grounder for one quick out, then the Outlaws hit a bunt and got on base safely.  The runner advanced to 2nd and 3rd on a wild pitch and a stolen base.  On a grounder to Amber at 2nd, the Aces let the run score and went for the sure out at 1st.  Good thing.  Danye followed with a double to deep center field, but was left stranded on a ground out to 3rd.   Amber led off with a hard line drive back to the pitcher, which popped out of Danye's glove and was caught by the shortstop.  Two strikeouts followed.  The Outlaws hit a double on one out in the 2nd, and the runner advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch.  But after a strikeout, the Aces got the 3rd out at 1st on a bunt.  Rhiannon reached on an error on another missed fly ball to right, and Ashley came in to run for her.  However, on a line drive back to the pitcher on a hit and run, Ashley got caught in a double play.  Stephanie walked, but was left stranded.  The Outlaws had one baserunner in the 3rd on catcher obstruction, but a strike out and two ground outs left the runner stranded.  The Aces finally got things started in the 3rd, when Kesha led off with a single, followed by another single from Kelsea.  A pop up to 1st base on a bunt attempt almost got Kesha doubled off on 3rd, but no throw was made.  Kesha scored on a wild pitch, and Lana Jo then brought home another run with a single, to put the Aces up 2-1.  It looked like trouble in the 4th when Q led off with a double.  The Outlaws followed that with a line drive to 2nd that Lana Jo couldn't get to.  Amber came in from center to field the ball, and fired to Kelsea at the plate to get Q trying to score!  What a crucial out!  Ashley then fielded a fly ball to right, and Rhiannon struck out the last batter to leave one stranded.  Lindsey led off with a single in the bottom of the 4th.  Stephanie walked again. Kendall bunted, and the Outlaws overthrew 1st and Lindsey scored.  A fly out and two groundouts left two stranded.  In the 5th, the Outlaws had a pop-up and two groundouts to Amber at 2nd.  With time close to expiring, the Aces hoped to bat until it ran out.  However, after all the timeouts were used, three quick outs didn't use up the time, so another inning started.  Kimberly led off with a single for the Outlaws in the 6th. Danye was up next.  She had hit a homerun out of the park against almost every team she faced in this tournament.  On a 1-1 count, she popped up a foul ball by 3rd base, and Megan got over to catch it!  Another very critical out!  The next batter hit to Amber who threw to Lindsey at short to take the lead runner at 2nd base.  Then, on another grounder to 2nd, Amber took the out at first for BALL GAME!  Aces win! Good thing, too, because there was no IF game!  Way to go Aces!  Undefeated in bracket again!
