4 game Round Robin

Practice Games at Round Robin
After a disappointing rain out the previous weekend, and too much rain in Pearland to practice on our fields, the Aces made a last minute decision to join a round robin in Sugar Land to get in some practice before the next tournament.  The girls got four games in for the day, splitting games against both 14U and 16U teams.  The stats for these games weren't discovered until February -- so some of the comments may be incorrect!

Game 1 - vs Outrageous 16U (league team).  Aces won 6-0.
Rhiannon pitched three innings for the Aces, and had five consecutive ground outs back to the pitcher in the first two innings, then walked one batter in the 2nd who was quickly caught stealing by Megan throwing to Emily at short.  Two ground outs (to short and third) in the 3rd, and a strikeout kept runners off the bases.  For the Aces, eight batters walked in the first inning, and runners scored on wild pitches, to put 5 runs on the board.  Two pop ups and a fielder's choice ended the inning with two runners on base.  The Aces had three fly ball outs in the 2nd, and a ground out for the first out in the 3rd.  Emily came up with the only hit of the game with a single, and scored on a passed ball after advancing to 3rd on two walks, putting the Aces up 6-0 when time ran out.

Game 2 - vs Texas Outlaws.  Aces lost 1-2.
Amber hit a single in the 1st inning on one out, but two back to back hits to the left side took the lead runner at 2nd.  Lana Jo reached on catcher interference in the 2nd, and advanced on a single by Rhiannon and a ground out.  Kelsea brought home a run with a single, but was left stranded.  Megan led off with a single in the 4th, but was left stranded on three quick outs.  Lana Jo pitched for the Aces, and allowed only one base runner on a walk in the first three innings.  The leadoff batter walked in the 4th, and after a strikeout, the next batter got the only Outlaws hit of the game.  That was followed by an Aces defensive error that allowed a run to score.  A fielder's choice failed to get the out at the plate as the second runner scored for the Outlaws just before time expired.  Aces out hit the Outlaws 4-1, but couldn't string enough hits together to put many runs on the board.

Game 3 - vs Sugar Land Heat.  Aces won 3-0.
Rhiannon pitched two innings for the Aces, and allowed one hit it the 1st inning.  The Aces had one base runner in the 1st when Amber walked, and one in the 3rd when Stephanie walked.  However, the Aces bats were hot in the 2nd inning, when Emily, Lindsey, and Lana Jo hit singles to load the bases, and Kelsea brought home the first run with another single.  On one out, Kendall hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score another run, and Ashley walked to load the bases again.  Kesha came up with another single to bring home the Aces 3rd run.  Three were left stranded on a ground out.  Stephanie came in to finish the game in the 3rd, and ran into a little trouble after two outs in the 3rd when she walked two on full counts, but struck out the last batter to leave both stranded.  In the 4th, the batter that hit off Rhiannon popped up to the catcher for the last out of the game, keeping the shut-out going.

Game 4 - vs Hot Shots.  Aces lost 0-1.
The Aces faced stronger pitching in the final game of the day, against the 16U Hot Shots.  The first inning, the Aces were 3-up-3-down on ground outs.  Rhiannon pitched for the Aces, and the first batter she faced hit a single.  After a ground out advanced the runner to 2nd, the runner was caught stealing on a throw from Emily at catcher to Lindsey at short.  The Hot Shots got another hit, but a pop up to the pitcher left the runner stranded.  Lindsey hit a single on one out in the 2nd, and advanced on a sac bunt by Kelsea. Kendall followed with a single to advance Lindsey to 3rd, but a fly out to deep right field left both stranded.  On one out, the next batter reached on an error, and advanced on a sac bunt, but a line drive to Megan at 1st left the runner stranded.  Kesha was hit by a pitch after one out to get on base in the 3rd, and advanced on a single by Amber, but both were left stranded on a fly out to right and a ground out.  The Hot Shots had 3-up-3-down in the 3rd, and the Aces had 3-up-3-down in the 4th.  On two outs in the bottom of the 4th, the Hot Shots hit a double and advanced to 3rd as the Aces made a defensive error.  The runner scored on a passed ball before the next batter grounded out.  It looked like the Aces could turn things around in the 5th, when Rhiannon hit a single on one out, and Ashley walked.  Kesha hit a single to load the bases.  However, on a fly out to left field, the runner on 3rd had to hold.  A ground out left all three stranded.  In the 5th, the Hot Shots led off with a single, and anther batter reached on error, but the Aces got two quick outs on grounders to hold the runners when time expired.
