Finish the Season in Top 20 at ASA Nationals The Texas Aces team had no luck of the draw for this tournament. We faced one of the strong Southern California teams in our first pool game, and a Central California team in our second pool game. After dropping both pool games, we were seeded 4th in our pool. We weren't too concerned, since we don't seem to perform well in pool games in general. Our 4th place seed put us against another 4th place seed from Kansas for the first round of bracket. After winning that game, we went head to head with yet another strong Southern California team for the next game. This time, the Texas Aces showed what they were made of, as they held the Desperados Gold scoreless for 8 innings. In the 2nd inning of ITB, the Aces scored two runs as the Desperados made the errors, and the Aces held the lead to win the game. Next up, the Aces faced the Northern California Grapettes. The Aces scored in the bottom of the 1st inning, but several innings later the Grapettes scored to tie it up. This game also went into ITB. The Aces scored in the bottom of the 8th to win the game. That put the Aces up against the Southern California team that was favored to win the tournament. The Aces hung in there for the first couple of innings with the Raiders. But, the 2nd time through the Raiders lineup, with two runners on and two outs, and a 3-2 count, the wrong pitch was thrown to the #4 batter, who took it to the fence. That started a scoring drive that the Aces couldn't overcome. The Aces played tough defensively throughout the tournament, but just didn't have the offense to go with it. |
