Aces 1st in 16U Bracket at Holiday Classic
Somehow the Aces were able to play this tournament in spite of the rainy weather.  The Aces played both pool games shorthanded, as girls had school basketball, church functions, soccer games, and illness.  Get well soon Stephanie!  We missed you this weekend.  Thanks to "E" and Courtney who played with us in the second pool game, when we were down to 7.  After heavy rains cut our 2nd pool game short, the rest of the pool games were cancelled.  After the rains stopped, the bracket games started just an hour behind schedule.  The Aces won their first two bracket games without allowing a run to score, beating the 16U Katy Force and the 16U West Houston Peppers.  The Aces returned on Sunday, only to wait for a rain delay before warming up for our first game.  We lost a close game to the 16U Katy Heat, when we left ten baserunners stranded in five innings.  The Heat had 5 baserunners in the game with only one hit, but a leadoff walk and an error led to the only run of the game.  The Aces came back and beat the 16U Katy Cruisers Gold, and then sent home the 16U Dickinson Slammers with 4th place.  After the Katy Heat beat the Texas Peppers, both teams decided to forfeit and head home with 2nd and 3rd place, leaving the Aces in 1st place.  Good job girls.  You deserve the victory!  We would have taken them both!

Pool Game 1 - vs Spring Klein Hawks 16U.  Aces lost 0-1.
In our first pool game, Lana Jo made her pitching debut for the season.  Although she walked the first batter, she quickly found her groove, and had 3 strikeouts and allowed only 3 hits in the game.  Well, actually only one hit should really count, since we had only two outfielders.  One hit was to left, and one was to right, while both outfielders were playing towards the center!  Offensively, the Aces had trouble finding their bats.  The only baserunners were in the 4th when Kendall walked.  Megan hit a sac bunt, but the Hawks quickly took the lead runner at 2nd.  Another sac bunt by Rhiannon advanced Megan, and a single by Kesha advanced both runners, but both were left stranded.

Pool Game 2 - vs Katy Heat 16U.  Aces lost 0-5.
Down to only seven players, the Aces got a little help from a couple of girls from the Katy Force Gold team.  Thanks girls!  The Aces hit better in this game, but couldn't string the hits together to score any runs.  Megan hit a single in the first inning, and Kesha hit a single in the 2nd, and Emily walked.  Rhiannon and Kelsea each had singles in the 4th, but the rains came before we could bring them home. Defensively the Aces had some problems, with players not in their usual positions.  Rhiannon walked a couple, and several defensive errors allowed runs to score.

Bracket 1 - vs Katy Force 16U.  Aces won 5-0.
In the first bracket game, Rhiannon started pitching for the Aces.  In three innings, Rhiannon struck out 9 and allowed one hit.  Lana Jo pitched the last two innings, and struck out 3 and got 3 ground outs.  Megan was the Aces first base runner when she walked in the 2nd inning.  Megan stole 2nd, then came home on a single by Kendall.  Kelsea singled to bring home Kendall.  Kesha singled on two outs in the 3rd, and scored on a single by Rhiannon.  Kendall led off with a single in the 4th and stole 2nd.  Kelsea hit another single and scored Kendall.  Ashley hit a single up the middle.  Amber bunted, but the Force got Kelsea at the plate.  Lindsey singled to bring home Ashley, but Lindsey was tagged out going for extra bases.

Bracket 2 - vs West Houston Peppers 16U.  Aces won 5-0.
Amber led off the next game with a double.  Kesha singled and advanced Amber to 3rd.  Rhiannon hit into a fielder's choice which held Amber at 3rd and loaded the bases.  Megan singled to left to bring home Amber.  Kendall hit into a fielder's choice which got Kesha at the plate.  Three were left stranded.  With Rhiannon pitching, the Peppers had one strike out and two ground outs in the 1st.  Both sides were 3-up-3-down in the 2nd.  Lindsey led off with a walk in the 2nd, and advanced on a sac bunt by Kesha, but an error allowed Lindsey to score.  The Peppers led off with a single in the bottom of the 3rd, and Rhiannon walked one between strike outs.  Megan caught the lead runner stealing 3rd for the final out.  Kendall reached on an error in the 4th.  Kelsea bunted safely to advance Kendall to 3rd.  Ashley hit into a fielder's choice which held the runner at 3rd and loaded the bases.  After one out, Amber hit a triple to bring home 2 runs.  Lindsey reached on an error as Amber scored.  Rhiannon walked one in the 4th, but a ground out back to the pitcher and two strike outs left the runner stranded.

Bracket 3 - vs Katy Heat 16U.  Aces lost 0-1.
The Aces were home team for the first game on Sunday.  Lana Jo pitched for the Aces.  After a ground out to Amber and a pop-up to Lindsey, the next batter doubled, but the runner was left stranded on another pop-up to Lindsey.  Amber led off with a single for the Aces.  Lindsey bunted, and the Heat went for the lead runner, but missed the out on an error.  Kesha hit into a fielder's choice which got Amber heading to 3rd.  Rhiannon singled and Lindsey tried to score from 2nd, but she was tagged out on a close play at the plate.  Megan walked to load the bases, but three were left stranded.  The leadoff batter in the 2nd walked, and advanced on a sac bunt.  A fielding error allowed the runner to score.  On a fielder's choice to short, Lindsey got the lead runner at 2nd, and a ground out left one stranded.  Kelsea led off with a single in the bottom of the 2nd, but was caught stealing.  Ashley reached on an error, but was left stranded.  After a ground out, the Heat had one base runner on a walk in the 3rd, but the runner was left stranded after a fly out to Ashley in right and a pop-up to the pitcher.  Lindsey led off with a single in the bottom of the 3rd.  After one out, Rhiannon singled to advance Lindsey.  Megan walked to load the bases.  A fly out to right and a strike out left three stranded (again!).  The Heat was 3-up-3-down in the 4th on two fly outs to Emily in center, and a ground out to Megan at 3rd.  Ashley doubled on a beautiful hit to left field in the bottom of the 4th, and advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch.  With one out, and a 2-2 count, the game was suspended due to rain.  When the game resumed 30 minutes later, Ashley ended up stranded on 3rd.  The Heat was again 3-up-3-down in the 5th, with a ground out to Lindsey, a fly out to Kesha, and a ground out to Amber.  Kesha led off with a single in the bottom of the 5th, and advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch.  Rhiannon hit a screamer line drive up the middle, but the center fielder robbed her of the hit (good diving catch!).  Kendall walked and got to 2nd, but two were left stranded on strike outs.  The Aces left TEN base runners stranded in this game, while the Heat left only three.  We outhit 'em 7-1, but we just couldn't bring home the runs.

Bracket 4 - vs Katy Cruisers Gold 16U.  Aces won 7-4.
Due to the rain delays, the remaining bracket games were shortened to one hour finish the inning.  After the Aces watched the Katy Cruisers Gold send home the Texas Energy, the Aces faced the Cruisers.  Amber reached on an error to start the game.  Lindsey hit a sac bunt, and the Cruisers missed the lead runner on another error.  Kesha grounded out to advance both runners.  Rhiannon hit a single to left to score 2 runs.  Rhiannon advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch, but was left stranded.  In the bottom of the 1st, with Rhiannon pitching, the first batter ground out to Kendall at 1st.  After a strike out, the Cruisers hit a single, and the runner scored on a double.  A ground out left one stranded.  Kelsea led off with a bunt single in the 2nd, and advanced on a wild pitch and a stolen base.  Emily walked on one out.  Amber hit into a fielder's choice which held Kelsea at 3rd and loaded the bases.  Lindsey followed with a single to score one run.  Kesha hit into a fielder's choice, but the Cruisers failed to get the out at the plate as another run scored.  Rhiannon singled to bring home another run and keep the bases loaded.  A fielder's choice got the last out at the plate, but the Aces had put 3 up that inning, bringing the score to 5-1.  The Cruisers were 3-up-3-down in the 2nd, as Rhiannon struck out the side.  Kelsea led off the 3rd with a single.  After one out, Emily hit into a fielder's choice, which got Kelsea going for 3rd.  Emily advanced to 2nd on the play, and later stole 3rd.  Sarah hit into a fielder's choice as the Cruisers held Emily at 3rd.  Lindsey followed with a double to bring home two more runs.  Sarah came in to pitch for the Aces in the bottom of the 3rd.  After missing the first half of the tournament, Sarah wasn't up to her usual caliber, as she allowed four hits and three runs scored.  Rhiannon came back in to finish the inning with a runner on 2nd.  On a grounder to Kelsea in right, Kelsea made a great play to first as the runner advanced to 3rd.  Rhiannon threw a wild pitch to the next batter, and the runner tried to score.  Emily at catcher chased down the ball and quickly flipped it to Rhiannon for the tag at the plate to end the game!

Bracket 5 - Dickinson Slammers 16U.  Aces won 4-1.
The Aces faced the Slammers after the Slammers sent home the Texas Sting.  Lindsey walked on one out.  Kesha advanced Lindsey with a single.  Rhiannon advanced both runners with a ground out.  Megan reached on a dropped 3rd strike to load the bases.  Kendall brought home a run with a bases loaded check-swing bunt that surprised everyone, especially Kendall!  Kesha was caught at the plate trying to score on a wild pitch.  The Slammers first batter reached on an error, advanced on a ground out, and stole 3rd.  The runner was fast and scored on a fly ball to 2nd.  Kelsea led off the 2nd with a single up the middle.  Sarah hit into a fielder's choice which missed the out.  Lana Jo reached on a missed fly ball in left, as the runners all advanced safely to load the bases.  Amber doubled to bring home two runs.  After one out, Kesha walked to load the bases again.  Rhiannon lined out to 2nd, but all the runners got back to their bases in time.  Megan then walked to bring in another run, and a ground out left three stranded.  The Slammers led off with a single in the bottom of the 2nd.  On a grounder to short, Lindsey took the lead runner at 2nd with a quick throw to Amber.  The remaining runner advanced to 2nd on a ground out, and to 3rd on a wild pitch, but was left stranded on a grounder back to the pitcher.  Lana Jo hit a two-out single in the 3rd but was left stranded.  The Slammers were up to bat as home team in the bottom of the 3rd.  After a ground out to 1st and a strike out, Lana Jo came in to pitch for the Aces.  After a 2-2 count, Rhiannon went back in.  Time finally expired, and Rhiannon struck out the last batter with two more strikes to end the game!  (Yes, there were 4 strikes on that out!)  The Slammers left with 4th place.  Because the Katy Heat and the Peppers decided to leave and forfeit their remaining games, the Aces took home 1st place.

Bracket 6 - Texas Peppers 16U.  Aces won 7-0 by forfeit.
Aces won by forfeit.

Bracket 7 - Katy Heat 16U.  Aces won 7-0 by forfeit.
