Aces
Runner-Up at Round Rock Invitational The Round Rock Invitational was a chance for Texas high school teams to play together before the high school season started. Since half of the Aces players attend the same school, and most of the rest are from the same UIL district, and none of the schools they represent were attending the tournament, the Texas Aces were invited to play. The Aces took 2nd out of 43 teams. Every Aces player contributed, and the girls did a great job, although many of them have no varsity softball experience (yet). After a 9-2 win over Special K, a select team out of Fort Worth, the Aces were warmed up and ready to play. Good thing, because in their second bracket game, the Aces played Tomball HS, which placed 2nd in 5A state last year and had half of their team return. Rhiannon Kliesing (So.-Pearland HS), pitched, and the Aces defense was awesome. Stephanie Runge (Sr.- Clear Creek HS) caught a line drive to deep right field with one runner on base to keep Tomball from scoring in the 1st. Rhiannon singled in the 4th, and pinch runner Kesha Hagerman (So.- Pearland HS) scored as Megan Powell (So.-Alvin HS) doubled. Tomball led off the bottom of the 6th with a single, and another runner reached with no outs, but Lindsey Langner (So.- Pearland HS) made a double play at 2nd to protect the Aces lead, as the Aces came out on top 1-0. In an ITB game against Elgin HS, Kendall Glasgow (So.-Pasadena Memorial HS) drove in the winning run for a 3-2 victory. In the next game against Colleyville HS, Jessica Runge (Sr.-Clear Creek HS) drove in the winning run for a 1-0 win. The Aces also played San Antonio Marshall HS, who took 3rd at state, with Stormy Keeler pitching. Morgan Luksa (Fr.-Clear Creek HS) pitched for the Aces, with Kelsea Orsak (Fr.- Pearland HS) behind the plate. Amber Russell (Fr.-Baytown Sterling HS) was two for two at the plate and drove in the game winning RBI in this 1-0 game. In the final game of the winners bracket, the Aces faced the defending State Champions from Elkins HS. Although Rhiannon allowed 9 hits in the game, the Aces stellar defense kept Elkins from scoring throughout the game. Brytish Fluellen (Fr.-Pearland HS) played outstanding at short stop, picking off a runner at 3rd, and completing a 1-6-3 double play . This time it was Jessica Cotton (Sr.-Pearland HS) that drove in the winning run in ITB for a 1-0 final. Tomball made it all the way through the loser's bracket to face the Aces once again in the Championship game. The Aces again played outstanding defense, as did Tomball. Tomball's Brette Reagan (Baylor signee) had an awesome performance at 3rd base. The game was scoreless through 6 regulation innings. The game went into a tie-breaker inning in the 7th, but both teams failed to score. Finally, in the bottom of the 8th, Tomball hit one deep in left field to score and take the championship game 1-0. It was a great tournament, down to the final inning! ![]() Texas
