Michelle Downing (OF). Thanks for helping us reach our
goals. The Aces were missing roster players Megan Yanda, who was
ill, and Katie Brokmeyer, who had family matters to tend to. We

the A's in the 2nd. The Aces loaded the bases in the 3rd with a single
by Lindsey, a fielder's choice, and a walk, but all 3 were left
stranded. The A's put two more on the board in the bottom of the 3rd
when the first two runner's reached on a walk and a hit by pitch by
Beth, followed by two singles. Rhiannon singled in the 4th, but her
pinch runner was caught stealing. Lindsey led off the 5th with a
single, and scored on a triple by Kesha to prevent a shutout. Beth and
Lana Jo shut down the Athletics the rest of the game.
Pool Game 2: Texas Aces Gold 4 - San Jose Sting 1.
The Sting led off with a single, but two strike outs and a ground out

Game 1: Texas Aces Gold 2 - Wichita Mustangs 0 (tournament data).
The Mustangs started out with back to back singles and advanced to 2nd
& 3rd on a ground out. Rhiannon then struck out one before
walking another to load the bases. However, a ground out to
Lindsey at 2nd stranded all three. Kesha led off with a single
(as usual!) but was left stranded. The Mustangs had two
baserunners on a single and a walk in the 2nd but both were left
stranded. Kelsea and Jenna singled on two outs in the 2nd, but
Kelsea was caught at the plate on a fielder's choice. Kesha
singled in the 3rd and advanced on a sac bunt by Lindsey. Preston
doubled to score Kesha. Rhiannon singled, and Kalyn singled to
drive in Preston. Holly singled to short but Michelle (pinch
running) was out on interference. Kelsea singled to load the
bases, but three were left stranded. Rhi struck out the side in
the 4th. Lindsey singled in the 5th. Rhiannon led off with
a double in the 5th, and Kelsea walked on two outs. Jenna was hit
by a pitch (again!) to load the bases, but all were left
stranded. The Aces completed the shutout, allowing only 4 hits,
as Rhiannon struck out 8. The Aces collected 11 hits in the game.
Game 2: Texas Aces Gold 2 - California Raiders 1.
Kesha led off with a single, but was forced out at 2nd. Holly hit
a fly ball to center for what appeared to be a 2nd out, but the pitcher
was called for an illegal pitch, ball to the batter. On the next
pitch, Holly doubled to the fence. Kelsea singled and Holly
advanced to 3rd. On a full count with two outs, Jamie reached as
the pitcher was called for another IP, and the runners advanced.
Kesha then singled and Kelsea scored for the Aces 2nd run.
Rhiannon singled in the 3rd, but was forced out at 2nd, and Jamie
singled in the 4th but was left stranded. The Raiders had two on
in the bottom of the 4th on a walk and a single, but both were left
stranded. Rhiannon was hit by a pitch with two outs, no runners
on in the 5th. Kelsea singled in the 6th. Lindsey doubled
in the 7th, and Rhiannon and Kalyn walked to load the bases.
However, a ground out left all three stranded. The Raiders
threatened in the bottom of the 7th with back-to-back singles.
The runners advanced on a ground out to 2nd. On a grounder to
3rd, the Aces opted for the out at 1st and let the runner from 3rd
score. The next batter battled at the plate with the tying runner
at 2nd, and drew a full count while fouling off an additional 4 pitches
before striking out! The Raiders had only 3 hits in the game,
while the Aces collected 8 hits in the victory.
Game 3: Texas Aces Gold 3 - So Cal Breakers 1 (tournament data).
Kesha hit up the middle, and was out for the first time in 5 games on a
great play by the 2nd baseman. Lindsey singled, but was left
stranded. The Breakers singled to lead off the bottom of the
inning, but the runner was left stranded. Kalyn walked to lead
off the 2nd, and Holly singled. Kelsea hit a sacrifice bunt, and
reached on an error that allowed Michelle (running for Kalyn) to
score. Jenna doubled to drive in two more runs. Jamie
walked, but two were left stranded. Rhi and Kalyn singled in the
3rd but were left stranded. The Breakers first batter in the
bottom of the 3rd reached on a dropped 3rd strike and advanced on a sac
bunt. On a single to center, the runner scored on a close call at
the plate as Holly made a great throw to Kelsea for the tag.
Lindsey singled in the 4th but was left stranded. The Aces had 6
hits, and the Breakers had 3 while Rhi struck out 7 while allowing one
unearned run.
Game 4 - Texas Aces Gold 4 - Orange County Batbusters 8 (8 innings) (tournament data).
The Aces faced the defending National Champion OC Batbusters for their
first game on the Stadium field. The Batbusters hit two fly-outs
to Kesha in left field before a double to center, but Rhi struck out
the final batter. Kesha flied out to left, and Batbusters starter
Cat Hosfield struck out the next two. The Batbusters were
3-up-3-down in the 2nd with a ground out to Lindsey at 2nd, and two
more fly-outs to Kesha in left. After the Aces had two fly-outs to
center field, Holly singled to short, but was left stranded. The
Batbusters singled on one out in the 3rd, but the runner was doubled
off on a line drive to Jenna at 3rd base. Kesha singled in the
3rd but was left stranded. The Batbusters singled again in the
4th but the runner was left stranded. Preston singled to lead off
the bottom of the 4th, and moved to 2nd on a sac bunt. The
Batbusters went to veteran pitcher Donna Kerr, and the runner was left
stranded. Both sides were 3-up-3-down in the 5th, with Kerr
striking out the side. The Batbusters hit back-to-back singles to
lead off the 6th. After a line out to Jenna at 3rd, and a fly-out
to Holly in center, the lead runner advanced to third on a passed
ball. The Batbusters then singled to short and scored the first
run of the game. Kesha walked and, on two outs, Rhiannon was hit
hard by a pitch (we were warned), but both runners were left
stranded. With Rhi's arm hurt pretty badly by the pitch, she
allowed a lead-off single in the 7th, and the next batter reached on an
error. After two outs, the next batter singled to drive in a run,
and another error allowed another run to score. Beth came in and
got out of the inning with a fly ball to left. The Batbusters
went back to starting pitcher Hosfield. The Aces didn't give up,
as Holly led off with a single, and Jenna following with another
single. The Batbusters then went back to Kerr in the circle.
Jamie hit into a fielder's choice that got Holly at 3rd, but Kesha
singled up the middle to score Bonnie, running for Jenna. Lindsey
battled to a full count and fouled off a couple of pitches, and ended
up winning the battle with a single that drove in two more runs to tie
the game at 3-3. Preston also battled to a full count and fouled
off a couple, but ended up striking out leaving one stranded. The
game went into International Tie-Breaker, with a runner starting at
2nd. The Batbusters singled to move the runner to 3rd, and the
batter moved to 2nd on the throw to 3rd. The next batter was
intentionally walked to load the bases. A sac fly to right scored
one run for the Batbusters, and allowed a runner to advance to
3rd. A fly out to left held the runners. The next batter
was intentionally walked, but an error in left on a fly ball cleared
the bases and allowed 4 unearned runs to score. Another Aces
error and a single gave the Batbusters two more runners before Lana Jo
came in and got out of the inning with a fly-out to center. The
Aces could only come up with one run in the bottom of the 8th, as
Preston started at 2nd and advanced on a single by Holly, and scored on
a single by Kelsea. Jenna was hit by a pitch to load the bases,
but the final batter hit into a fielder's choice to end the game.
Game 5 - Texas Aces Gold 0 - So Cal Choppers 4.
Rhi struggled to start the next game, and walked the first batter and
allowed a single. A sac bunt advanced the runners to 2nd and
3rd. On a grounder to short, the runner from 3rd scored, and when
the Aces hesitated, the runner from 2nd didn't stop at 3rd and also
scored. In the 2nd, Rhiannon allowed two singles and another run
before being replaced by Beth. Beth allowed two singles and
another run scored, then she struck out the final batter.
Rhiannon singled in the 2nd but was forced out at 2nd. Beth
didn't allow any runners in the 3rd or 4th. Kalyn singled in the
bottom of the 4th, but was left stranded. On two outs in the 5th,
Beth allowed two singles, but both runners were left stranded on a
fly-out to left. The Choppers had one other baserunner on a
two-out single in the 7th. The Aces ended up with only 3 hits in
the game. Rhiannon took the loss. Beth pitched the final
5.3 innings, with 3 K's and only 5 singles allowed.
